I remember reading about this Don Quixote during my schooling days, but right now, I cannot even remember what the story was all about, hehehe. But anyway, it's a 25-paylines game from Playtech, not that new but certainly not an old game either. The main strong point of the game lies in its Free Spins game - 10 free spins, with a frozen Wild symbol in the middle of reel 3 for all the free spins, and with an Increasing Multiplier after every 2 free spins, from 2x up to 6x, so some good wins can indeed be had with this 6x multiplier. However, the Free Spins game cannot be retriggered, so this becomes a sore point for me, hahaha.
Whenever I see any game that has an Increasing Multiplier feature, I tend to compare it with the game 'Blade', one of the best games from Marvel Super Heroes series, which are all no longer available now. In 'Blade', each win during the free spins increases the multiplier, up to 5x, and each non-winning spin would decrease it by -1. What it means is that it was possible to get wins at the 5x multiplier several times, for as long as each free spin achieves a win. This is not the case with this Don Quixote game. The multiplier increases only after 2 free spins, regardless of win or no win, but the multiplier can go as high as 6x. Moreover, the Extra Wild is frozen in this game, not as flexible as in the random positions in Blade, and it doesn't have the Splitting Symbol feature either. So actually, Don Quixote game can never be as good as Blade!
The paytable too isn't as good either. The Windmill Wild symbol only has a value of 3000x the line bet for 5 of them, getting 5 Book Scatter symbols would only a 100x total bet win, and all the other symbols have low values from 1000x down to 30x the line bet for each 5 of them. Since the Free Spins game only awards 10 free spins with a 2x initial multiplier, and cannot even be retriggered, that adds a further dent to the paytable, making it a low one. Not to my liking, not to Playtech's usual higher standards, but what to do.
The difference between Blade and Don Quixote becomes more obvious and more distinct as I played the game over several separate occasions, finding it very hard to trigger the Free Spins game, and realising that the payouts were much lower than those in Blade. All my plays on Don Quixote were more or less disappointing, to say the very least, simply because I couldn't even get a 100x win, with all the wins coming in at around the 50x bet amount. I couldn't even get any retriggers, and none of the wins ever paid with the 6x multiplier! Nevertheless, I'm sure that much better wins are indeed possible, but it just wasn't for me to get them.
