Never has there been a better time to play accumulators. There are more sports, markets, promos, and value on offer than ever before, meaning customers who love playing accas have more freedom and greater upsides when placing them. They also know they will be better rewarded for winning accas than in yesteryear. But if that’s the acca landscape in general terms, then which are the best accumulator betting sites?

Just like some betting sites are better than others for, say, cricket betting, live betting or watching live streaming, so acca betting is of higher quality at some sportsbooks than at others. And that’s what we’re about to guide you through: what to look for when choosing the best acca betting sites in terms of what really matters.

We’ll also talk you through how to place an acca, the different types of accas on offer and the benefits to them that make accas such a popular type of bet.

Most Important Things to Know when Choosing Betting Sites for Accumulators

So here’s our rundown of what to look out for when choosing the best sports betting sites, specifically for accumulators.

Acca flexibility: By this, we mean that the bookie lets you combine selections from all sorts of betting markets. For example, you might want to include a first goalscorer selection in your acca rather than a selection from the more usual football markets such as match winner/1x2 or over/under 2.5 goals or markets from various sports.

Acca (odds) value: As we often say here at AskGamblers, the generosity of a sportsbook’s odds is arguably the single most important factor for some bettors.  That extra bit of value here and there compared to other betting sites could make all the difference to your long-term P and L. This is particularly true of acca bets, where the odds of an acca are the odds of each selection multiplied by each other.

Let’s say that at Bookie A your acca is made up of the following teams to win: Chelsea (2.0) + Liverpool (1.5) + Spurs (2.5) = odds of 7.5. But at Bookie B, the odds on each of those selections are ever so slightly bigger: Chelsea (2.1) + Liverpool (1.55) + Spurs (2.65). This time, the acca comes to odds of 8.6, which is a significant difference.

Welcome offer: All the best accumulator betting sites will give you a welcome offer of sorts as a thank-you for choosing that site to play at rather than another one. Welcome offers are a good way of finding your feet at that sportsbook and if you can secure an early win with the free bet or other bonus that they give you as the sign-up offer, even better. As an added bonus, very often, the free bet or risk-free bet you receive as the welcome offer can be used on accas, so you’ll have a chance to place your first acca(s) ‘on the house’.

Benefits of Accumulator Betting

There are good reasons why accumulator betting is so widespread and why accas are one of the most popular types of bets across sportsbooks worldwide. Here are some of them.

  • They cater for all budgets: Player A may decide that he/she wants to place an acca made up of just two selections: Man City to beat Man Utd @ 1.7 and Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon 2024 @ 2.6, at combined odds of 4.42, putting £500 on the double to win £2210. Player B may decide to put a 12-way acca, made up of 12 favourites to win their respective football matches that weekend. The odds of that come to 2,000.0, and Player B has just £1 on the acca. In other words, customers with very different budgets can play accas their own way.
  • Life-changing wins on offer: If backing a hot favourite at short odds for a 20% profit is the sports betting equivalent of buying shares in a blue-chip company, then acca betting, particularly with 10+ selections, is the equivalent of playing the lottery: small investments can lead to huge payouts.  So punters wanting to win life-changing amounts of money, knowing it’s somewhat unlikely to happen, while wanting to avoid large investments to get there, will feel that accumulator betting is for them.
  • Promos often geared around accas: Because accas are quite hard to nail, bookies are keen to run promotions around them. A free bet offer may include the option to put it on an acca, or the promo may specifically say that it has to be placed on an acca. The best accumulator betting sites are also happy for punters to add extra selections to their acca, knowing that the more there are, the less likely the acca is to win. So they’ll give you ‘acca boosts’ where each extra selection in your acca will boost the acca by a certain percentage if it goes on to win.

While there are certain benefits here, you should always keep in mind that accumulators are more risky than many other types of bets because you add multiple selections to your bet slip, and you need all of them to win to get a return on your bet.

Guide on How to Place an Accumulator Bet

You won’t go very far in terms of pocketing big wins if you’re not sure how to go about placing acca bets in the first place. Here’s how to do it.

  • Log into your sportsbook account or betting app.
  • Check to see if there are promos, such as a free bet currently available for you to claim, that will save you from having to use your own money when placing the acca.
  • Navigate to each of the selections you want to include in your acca. For example, if you wanted to bet on CSK to beat Rajasthan in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as your first selection, you’d go to Cricket/IPL/CSK v Rajasthan match and would then click on CSK in the match winner market.
  • Add the other selections you want in your acca to your betting slip by going through the same process.
  • Choose your stake for the acca and click ‘Place Bet/Confirm/Bet Now’.

Types of Accumulator Bets

Here are some examples of different types of acca bets that can be placed.

  • Straight acca: This is pretty much the one we’ve been talking about so far. Whether your acca has 2 selections or 20, the odds of the acca are the odds of each selection multiplied by each other, and you’ll need all of them to win for you to have a winning acca.
  • Trixie: It’s made up of three selections, but in addition to the treble, where all three need to win for you to win, it also includes three doubles. So if your selections were A, B and C, the Trixie bet would be made up of the following bets: A/B, A/C, B/C and A/B/C.
  • Patent: All of the above is also true of patent bets in that there are three doubles and a treble in the patent. In addition, each of those three selections is also placed as a single. So there are also three singles in a patent, for a total of seven bets.
  • Yankee/Lucky 15: A Yankee is made up of four selections and consists of 11 bets: six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold (acca). Simple maths tells you that you’ll need at least two of those selections to win to ensure that at least one double comes in. A Lucky 15 works similarly, but those four selections are also bets in their own right in that four singles are also included, in addition to the other 11. That brings the total to 15 bets, hence the name.
  • Bet Builder: Whereas all the above are different because of the number of selections and maths behind them, Bet Builders are different for a very simple reason. Rather than the selections all coming from different events, in Bet Builders, the selections all come from the same event, making up just one acca. Most Bet Builders are placed around a football match. So if it was for Liverpool vs. Everton, the selections might be: Liverpool to win + both teams to score + over 4.5 cards. But these days, Bet Builders are also available for tennis, basketball and American football.

Can you Place Accumulator Bets on All Sports?

There’s no reason why you can’t have an acca that includes selections from any of the sports that the sportsbook offers odds on. So you could have an acca made up of tennis, golf and cricket selections. Alternatively, one made up of two selections from two separate football games, plus a tennis selection and a basketball one.

However, when it comes to Bet Builders, not all sites offer them on anything other than football while others may only have them available for two or three sports besides football.

So, if you are looking to do some Champions League betting, for example, you can make an accumulator bet or use the Bet Builder feature at most sportsbooks that offer them. However, if you prefer another sport rather than football, that might not be the case.
