Our Criteria for Choosing the Best Volleyball Betting Sites
What are all the features needed to be a top sportsbook for betting on volleyball? What are we looking for when searching for the best volleyball betting sites? Apart from licencing and safety information, we look into available markets, bonuses, odds quality and other criteria. Here are some key elements to look out for.
Bonuses
Most punters like to claim bonuses for betting as a reward for their loyalty and as a way of getting more bang for their buck.
Among the most common ones are:
- Free bets: Use the bookies’ own money to place bets rather than your own.
- Risk-free bets: You need to place the bet with your own money, but you’ll be refunded if the bet loses.
- Boosted odds: The betting site will increase the odds on certain selections to attract more business.
If you are unsure about how to claim a bonus at a sportsbook, here is what a typical process looks like:
- Look out for an e-mail, SMS or on-site banner on the betting site telling you about available bonuses.
- Opt in by clicking a button or do what’s needed to get the bonus, such as placing a qualifying bet or making a deposit.
- Make sure you use the bonus before it expires.
Bonuses often come with wagering requirements, meaning that, in many cases, you can’t automatically withdraw winnings generated from a bonus. You’ll have to play through those winnings a certain number of times before they’re ready to be withdrawn
If there are wagering requirements on a free bet, then you’ll have to try and turn the profits over before making a withdrawal request. But if you need to make a big deposit to claim a bonus with wagering requirements, particularly if they’re high, it might not be worth your while.
Deposit and Withdrawal Methods
These days there are dozens of different payment options available to get your money in and out of a betting site. That’s too many to list, but these are the most essential ones that will appeal to most punters:
- Debit cards such as Visa and Mastercard
- Bank transfer
- E-wallets such as Skrill, PayPal or Neteller
Although you don’t see them much in the UK, there are also crypto volleyball betting sites that accept Bitcoin, Tether, or Litecoin, to name a few available cryptocurrencies.
There are generally more payment options available for depositing than withdrawing, but be aware that some sites insist that you withdraw using the same method you used for depositing. Also, be aware that you’ll need to pass a Know Your Customer (KYC) check before making your first withdrawal, which will involve providing documents that prove you are who you say you are.
Most deposits are instant, although bank transfers can take 1-3 days to come through. When it comes to withdrawals, some, like Visa Fast Funds are almost instant, while withdrawals with debit cards or e-wallets generally take a few hours at least, and sometimes 2-3 days, to clear.
Number of Markets and Betting Types
Though we’re focussing on volleyball here, you want your sportsbook to cover all other major sports well, too. That includes good products for betting on cricket, football, horse racing and all the US Sports, among others.
Match winner odds see the most business across all sports, though markets involving total points, handicaps and correct scores see a lot of action, too. Handicaps and total points markets are very often available when betting on volleyball.

Volleyball Tournaments
Unfortunately for volleyball betting fans, even the biggest tournaments don’t attract anywhere near the same attention as big events in other sports like the Euros in football, Wimbledon in tennis or the Superbowl in the NFL. As a result, bookies are somewhat unlikely to offer too many bonuses around volleyball tournaments, with the best you can hope for maybe being some Odds Boosts.
But they may provide other features around them, such as live streaming, stats or some betting previews on their blog, to enhance your experience.
Let’s look at some of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the world.
The Olympic Games
Volleyball has been held at the Olympics every four years since 1964 for both men and women. Similar to sites that let you bet on basketball, this (the Olympics) is the tournament where the most money is bet on it because it’s arguably the biggest prize in the sport at the international level.
FIVB World Championship
The Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) organizes both men’s and women’s World Championship tournaments. They have been held every four years since their inception but will be held biennially starting in 2025.
The Soviet Union won the men’s competition six times before it stopped being the Soviet Union, with Italy (four titles), Brazil, and Poland (three each) the next most successful teams in the tournament’s history.
The Soviet Union also holds the most titles in the women’s championship (five), followed by Japan and Cuba (three titles each), and China, Russia and Serbia with two trophies.
FIVB World Cup
Also both men's and women's competitions, played among countries. It’s been played since 1965 and from 1991 onwards has been held the year before the Olympic Games with the Top 2 finishers here securing qualification to the Olympics.
When the tournament coincides with other major events, such as Olympic Games qualifiers, it is not played, so, for example, the most recent event was in 2019, with the 2023 edition cancelled. It’s been held in Japan since 1977.
FIVB Nations League
The FIVB Nations League, which started in 2018, is a FIVB tournament designed to replace the FIVB World League. Both men and women play the Nations League each year after the regular club season is finished.
The competition has a group stage, with two groups of eight teams, and the Finals tournament. The competition will expand to 18 teams from 2025.
How to Bet on Volleyball
Is volleyball good for betting?
Yes, it is, but just like with all other sports, there are no hard and fast rules that will guarantee wins when betting on volleyball. However, here are some useful suggestions:
- Refer to stats, rankings and head-to-head records to see how teams stack up against each other.
- Be aware of team news, especially if it involves key players being absent.
- Make use of bonuses where available so your money goes further.
- Gamble responsibly. If your bet looks like it might lose, refrain from doubling up on it at bigger odds in live betting because you may well end up losing double what you would originally have lost.
Volleyball Betting Apps
Almost all of the best online volleyball betting sites will have a stand-alone betting app for both iOS and Android, which is in addition to the web version of the site and the mobile browser.
The main advantage of betting on an app is that you can use it anywhere, as long as you have a smartphone. You can generally do most things on the app that you can on the web version, including betting, streaming and depositing, while apps also give you notifications about new promos or other important news regarding your account.
Volleyball Betting Tips and Strategies
Here are some tips and strategies to put you on the right path when betting on volleyball.
- If betting live, see how well the team receiving serve deals with the opposition’s best server or servers. If the big servers are getting lots of cheap points on serve, they’ll hold an edge.
- If you’re convinced a team will win the match easily, it might be worth betting on them to win 3-0 in sets rather than just backing them at a much shorter price to just win the match.
- Home advantage is extremely important in volleyball with the surface, the light and the crowd support making a big difference. If you can identify teams who aren’t great in general but up their game when at home, they might be worth backing as outsiders when at home to win, or on the handicap market.
Volleyball Live Betting
All of the best volleyball betting sites will allow you to bet live. Live betting means wagering on an event while it’s in progress and until the end of the match.
One of the advantages of live betting is that you can watch the match and draw some conclusions before putting your money down.
Another is that you can use cash out in live betting to bank a guaranteed profit when your bet is looking good or recover some of your stake on a bet that will probably go on to lose.
Boylesports has a live betting offering that gives a graphic display of what’s happening during the match, complete with a live scoreboard, while Bet365 is one of several bookies offering live streaming on volleyball matches to help you with your live betting.

New Volleyball Betting Sites
So where to bet on volleyball from among the newest sites that you may not have heard of, but which have a good volleyball betting product available?
The new betting site Boomerang, open only since 2024, has a decent amount of volleyball matches to wager on and one of its characteristics as a new site is that you can make crypto payments at it.
iBet, another good new betting site that has only been around since 2021, offers far more volleyball leagues than many of its rivals with betting available on matches from Argentina, Brazil, the Czech Republic and the USA, in addition to international matches.
Over at Winnerz, also a new site that has only been around since 2022, you can find a particularly good cash out feature to help you secure those guaranteed profits.
Popular Betting Types and Markets for Volleyball Betting
These are the main markets you can bet on in any given volleyball match:
- Match Winner: As the name indicates, you place a bet on the team you think will win the game.
- First Set Winner: Who will win the first set?
- Set Winner: This is a live betting market that allows you to predict the winner of the set in progress.
- Set Correct Score: What will be the final score in terms of sets e.g. 3-0, 3-1.
- Total Points: How many points will be scored by both teams across the match as a whole? This is normally an over or under bet. For example, over 180.5 points or under 180.5 points.
- Set Handicap: Will Team A or Team B win after the bookie applies the listed handicap to the final score in sets?
- Tournament Winner: Bet on who will the tournament as a whole rather than an individual match.
If you think it will be a very tight match decided by just one point here or there per set, a good strategy could be to go ‘overs’ on the total points handicap. If you think it might be quite one-sided, it might pay to go with ‘unders’.
During the big tournaments where there are several matches being played every day, you can also combine two or more selections in a volleyball acca.
Sadly, no volleyball betting site seems to offer Bet Builders on volleyball at the moment.
