Retro Reels is a 5 reels video slot with 20 pay-lines and it is running on Microgaming software. This slot combines cutting edge technology with the simplicity of retro style. Some of the well-known, old-school symbols can be found in this slot, like multicolored Lucky 7's, single and double Bars and Fruits. The reels are set in the old land-based slot console and the function buttons are in 3D. Feel free to try this slot here for free or visit Microgaming casinos to play for real money.
Before traveling back in time to get the real feel of old slot machines, you need to adjust your bet. Coin denominations range from 0.01 to 0.25 and can be set with "+/-". Pay-lines can be set with "lines" button, coins number with "coins" button, and "bet max" adjusts the maximum bet. "Spin" kick-starts the reels, and not until you press the "stop" will they cease to turn. Expert mode offers "auto-play" option which turns the reels for a preset number of times without interruption.
In Retro Reels video slot, vintage slot symbols are mixed with some modern slot features and these involve a scatter symbol, Free Spins bonus game and a Re-spin feature.
The 5 Free Spins Bonus symbol is the scatter of the game. When you land two or more of these symbols anywhere on the reels, the Free Spins bonus round will be triggered.
Once you activate Free Spins bonus round you will be awarded with 5 free spins for each symbol that activated the bonus game. All regular wins are doubled during this feature, and bets and pay-lines are the same as they were with the spin that triggered the bonus round. Free spins can be re-activated, so when you hit two or more bonus symbols during this feature, additional free spins will be added to those remaining.
Re-spin feature enables you to spin a reel of your choosing while other reels remain fixed. You can re-spin a reel at the end of any spin for additional cost, and this cost is calculated separately for each reel. You can re-spin a reel multiple times, and you are only paid out for new winning combinations that are formed as a result of a re-spin.

Retro Reels is a fruit machine game of yesteryears, upgraded to contemporary standards, with symbols of fruits, 7, Bars and a $ sign. There's even a Bonus Scatter symbol that not only pays for getting them but also awards free spins for getting 2 or more of them too. Ah, these fruit games certainly have come a long way from the original fruit machine games, and playing better than ever. Those free spins certainly make a big difference from the original game which hasn't got it, plus, there's also a special 'Respin' feature added in to make the game more interesting and with more winning chances. Needless to say, there's also a lot of losing chances too.
There is no Wild symbol in this game, but there is a Bonus Scatter symbol, 5 of which pays the usual 100x total bet amount. Getting 2 of these Bonus Scatters anywhere on the reels award 10 free spins, and getting 3, 4 or 5 of them awards 15, 20 or 25 free spins, with all wins doubled, and more free spins can be retriggered. You certainly cannot find these features in the original fruit machine games, I can tell you that. The '$' symbol is the highest paying symbol, 5 of which pays 10,000x the line bet, which is very good. The Red '7' pays 500x, the Blue '7' pays 500x, the Grey '7' pays 250x and a combination of any '7' pays 100x, all per line bet for 5 of each kind. The other Bar and Fruit symbols pay from 250x to 75x, including a mixed combination of Bars paying 75x too, all per line bet for 5 of each kind. Pity there aren't any Wild symbols in the game, otherwise the paytable could be a good one instead of just being an average one. Ah well, we can't have it all, can we? These game designers would certainly cut whichever corners they can in order not to over-provide in the paytable.
The 'Respin' feature allows any individual reel to be respun, at an additional cost of course, to try and get a better or bigger current win. This Respin feature may look good at first glance, but requires extreme care and caution in using it. Continuous reckless use of it would drain out any credit balance amount! Each respin can cost anywhere from $0.01 to well over $3000, but the outcome of each respin does not guarantee a win. I hardly use this feature at all in any of my game plays, because I have seen how it could gobble up the credits with ease.
Nonetheless, playing Retro Reels can be good and fun, especially when the Free Spins game have been triggered, because the retriggering of more free spins within the Free Spins game is indeed possible. I once had 2 retriggers of 10 more free spins each time, giving me a total of 30 free spins, but the final total payout wasn't that good at all. Couldn't even break the 40x total bet amount, and that was really disappointing, to say the least.
There are only 2 things that I don't quite like with this Retro Reels game. One, there isn't any Wild symbol. Two, most of the payouts tend to be low or mediocre, hardly ever going above 30x the total bet amount. As a result, it becomes rather hard to win on this game, even by a small amount.
