Japanese Mystery as its name shows is an Asian themed game but to be honest I expected more from the appearance of this game. There’s no really big problem with it I just wanted to see more authentic look and even if the Geisha, lotus flower symbols are very characteristics but I think the illustrations of card elements are not too suitable to the game somehow the atmosphere is not created in the best way and it just can’t be so impressive as it could be. I also think the graphics can be a little bit more attractive even if I like the Pagoda-like background image. In my opinion, using this theme much more could have been brought out from the appearance with better pictorial solutions and this product should produce a more impressive and illustrative aura.
The slot follows a very strange working scheme and surprisingly it doesn’t offer any well-known, expected and traditional game features like Wild, bonus, free spins, win multiplier. Even if it’s just a 10-payline mini game, it’s still strange to play with such powerless slot. The only feature is not so usual as the game offers a feature named Mystery Win symbol, meaning, if this symbol appears anywhere on the reels it starts to spin to reveal a randomly chosen different icons. At first sight it doesn’t make too much sense but not rare when 4 or 5 such pictograms come to the reels and all of them are transferred identical symbols and sometimes when the right order is realized some nice winning can be achieved by it and the potential Jackpot of the game also could be thanked to this quality when the entire screen turns into identical symbols (Geisha) and 5000 coins are credited.
Because of the symbols can appear on stacked format and because the wins reward us adjacent (so it is available to get wins from right to left or even only on the middle reels as they don’t necessarily have to start from the first or last reels) there’s some more chance for winning combinations to be completed but based on my experience this is a very poor paying slot, in general.
There are very long streaks (longer than we’re used to and longer than it can be accepted) when no wins completed and the Mystery Win feature can be usable only once of every 6 or 8 tries and most of the time the returns doesn’t live up to the expectations. Playing the game the player can feel the hiatus of the known features all the time and at least for me it really kills the overall playing experience. The game can’t be entertaining at all and with this terrible payout system I must go to that conclusion that Japanese Mystery is just another messed up product. It is definitely not that slot that I want it to be and it’s very frequently that this game causes more annoyance for me than pleasure so I have really no reason to return to this game regularly and I see a serious chance for forgetting this slot for a long time.
