Troll Hunters is an exciting video slot from Play’n GO software provider that will take you back into Norse mythology. The reels of this action packed slot are stacked with Viking warriors set out to defeat the mighty troll, a set of ear-rings, beer mugs, and a joint of meat to feed the hungry warriors after a day’s battle. The golden Rune symbol is a Wild and substitutes for all symbols. Head over to any Play’n GO casino in our listings to play this slot for real money.
Before you join the Viking warriors in battle, make sure you set your bet. Choose one of the five coin sizes offered ranging from 0.20 to 40. Having done that press “Start” for the game to begin. You can also choose “Auto Play” which will have the symbols fall into place without interruptions. “Stop” button will end the autoplay mode.
Instead of classic spinning reels, the game actually features a 5×5 grid board. Behind the symbols you can see the word ‘ Bonus’. As the reels fall into place and winning combinations are formed, the winning symbols disappear to allow the symbols above to fall into their place. Also, the central symbol in any win turns Wild, adding even more Wilds to the reels.
During the base game, you’ll accumulate multipliers while winning. The multipliers will be displayed on the left hand pane. This will continue until the entire reel is cleared and the Bonus is revealed, taking you to the bonus free spins round, with 10 free spins that will be multiplied by the number of ‘Bonus’ columns you’ve fully cleared.
The bonus round plays out on a separate game screen, and more symbols will come into the game such as battleaxes, shields and swords. The mighty troll also appears on the reels in the bonus game. Five or more matching symbols bag a win, while five or more trolls during the bonus round triggers a further bonus round, and you can keep re-triggering it for up to 20 extra rounds.

PlaynGo fans would certainly be very familiar with games like this Troll Hunters, although personally, Iâm not very keen on such games, but I do still give them some plays on and off. Not with Troll Hunters though â I have only played it perhaps on two occasions before, but not liking it one bit, simply because my luck on such games have never been any good, except for one such game â Reactoonz.
Troll Hunters play more like Golden Ticket, a cluster of 5 same symbols making a win, with hidden Bonus lines behind the reels of symbols, but without any special features as in other similar games like Moon Princess, for example, except for a Bonus Rounds (free spins) feature game. The initial 10 Bonus Rounds can be retriggered, up to a maximum of 20 Rounds, which really isnât a lot, if I may say so, which isnât to my liking. I donât really know how high the win multiplier can be, as I only got up to the 5x multiplier so far, but I guess this may well go above 10x, or maybe more.
Clearing all the symbols on the grid would award a nice 1000x win, getting 5 Wild symbols would pay 500x, but all the other symbols have rather low win values of 25x downwards, except during the Bonus Rounds whereby up to 10 same symbols can be won at a time, with win values of 175x downwards. Nonetheless, I wouldnât say that the paytable is good, perhaps more like being average during the Bonus Rounds, but quite low during the base game. I was lucky enough to get a decent 131x win in the base game, then I made my way out very soon after! Hehehe.
What I particularly donât like at all about this game is the sudden jump from the starting bet of 0.20 to 1.00, then from 2.00 to 10.00, and so on. Why a sudden change in this betting size arrangement, I simply cannot figure out, because the other similar games do have standard regular increments instead. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why this Troll Hunters game couldnât be a hit with players. Players like me, and probably most other players too, would hardly want to play with the bigger bets, unless one can afford a big starting balance, which I canât.
