Book of Shadows Review - Editor’s Impressions
The Book of Shadows slot breathes cold foetid air into the ‘Book of’ slots and brings the weirdest and most exciting features. Instead of the warm Egyptian sand as in many such slots, the Book of Shadows is Nolimit City’s crack at a horror-themed online slot.
While trying to match symbols, we could not hit wins frequently with the base game. However, the few wins that we landed on were quite decent. If you want a spooky good time, read this detailed Book of Shadows slot review.
Overview of Book of Shadows Game
Action in the Book of Shadows happens on five reels and adjustable rows. Players can tap on the white arrow in the middle of the reels up or down to choose the number of ‘shadow rows’ they want active, from three to five rows: the more rows, the more slot paylines.
This horror-themed slot is the product of Nolimit City and has up to 20 paylines. Three rows give ten paylines, four give 15, and five offer 20 paylines.
The symbols you will find here include 10, J, Q, K, and A as low-paying symbols and the Eye in a Flask, Butterfly, Ram Skull, Cat, Mystery Woman, and Book of Shadows Wild/Scatter as high-paying symbols.
To play on this slot, you only need to log in to a Book of Shadows online casino, make a deposit, choose a bet between £0.10 and £100, and tap the spin button.
Book of Shadows RTP, Payout, and Volatility
The Book of Shadows’ volatility is sky-high, and RTP varies with the number of rows you choose to play with. For the three rows, the RTP is 96.01%, 96.07% for four rows, and 96.19% for five rows. When we tested the Book of Shadows slot demo, we managed to hit rare but decent wins.
The low-paying symbols pay up to 25x your stake, and high-paying symbols pay up to 500x your stake. The maximum win in Book of Shadows is 30,338x your bet.
Book of Shadows Graphics and Gaming Experience
Nolimit City uses a simple design to create a decidedly creepy environment in the Book of Shadows slot machine. Its scary characters depict what you will find in a lonely, chilling forest. The background and quirky music complete the scene, and we cannot stop but anticipate a scary adventure here.

Alter the ‘Reel’ World With Enchantments in Book of Shadows
Although it’s Nolimit City’s first horror-themed ‘book of’ slot, Book of Shadows is exciting to play. We are thrilled by the creepy theme that matches the quirky music. Its extremely high volatility can mean larger payouts. Besides, the ability to alter the slot reels and increase paylines is an innovative touch.

Book of Shadows is a 5 reel slot that has a book mechanic and was released about a year ago by Nolimit City game provider. When it was initially released, I wasn't too excited about this game, just because I thought it's yet another book slot and it's no secret there's already a lot of those out there. However, after seeing some big hits from other players I decided to try my luck with the slot.Â
As you can imagine, the game is inspired by a dark theme, it's a bit spooky and almost haunted but I do like the color-scheme and it gives me Halloween vibes. Aside from that, the game offers something more unusual- you can choose whether to play it on 3 rows, 4 rows or 5 rows. Of course, that comes with additional cost, while playing with 3 rows comes with a minimum of 10 cent stake.Â
When it comes to the base game, I don't find it very exciting. If you play with 5 rows, you can possibly get more winning combinations due to having more lines open. Also, you can lock certain reels for additional cost and respin other reels, which can help to land the bonus quicker. But it can become quite cosgly, which is why I prefer not using this "lock reel" option. Also I usually skip to just buy the bonus, which again is possible in 3 different levels, depending on how many rows you want to have active. I usually go with the most volatile option of 5 rows active. Then you get your typical book bonus, where you get 10 free spins and one symbol is your special expanding symbol. However, what makes it stand out is the fact that if you're not happy with your special symbol, you can switch it once- of course there's no guarantee that the next special symbol will be a better one. Then, whenever the symbol lands, it will expand, which is why it's better to play on all 5 rows for bigger win potential.Â
Having said that, in my experience it's very difficult to get good wins from the bonus round, it definitely is a very high volatility bonus that pays all or nothing. For the most part, even if my special symbol is a low paying symbol, I've never had a full screen of any symbol. But of course I've seen numerous other players getting full screen of top symbols, so it's definitely possible.
Overall, it's an average game with spooky design and high volatility. But somehow I rarely find myself playing this game, as good base game hits are rare and good bonus hits are even more rare. Certainly not in my top list from Nolimit City.
