Arrows Edge didn't bother being subtle with this release, at least when it comes to the graphics and symbols. The cowboy boots, shot glasses, sheriffs stars and all the rest of the picture symbols are obviously ripped off from NetEnt's legendary Dead or Alive slot machine, which is a very brave statement for any developer - least of all a relatively unknown one.
Despite the lack of originality my first impressions of this game were really quite good - the quality of the graphics is very high and even the sound was somewhat impressive, as this was one of the few games that did not have me seeking out the mute button after a couple of minutes of play.
The paytable is really quite generous in this game, particularly the wild symbols which award a chunky 1,000x your stake for a full line of five-of-a-kind. The free spins bonus initially grants a generous 15 free spins but also has a special "whiskey shot" feature which can up this to a maximum of 21 free spins. If you manage to collect the maximum six glasses you also receive a 3x multiplier for the remainder of your free spins. Combining this multiplier with the top five-of-a-kind payouts makes for some exciting win possibilities, but it's a little disappointing that the 3x multiplier is only awarded near the end of the free spins bonus - and that's if your lucky enough to collect all the whiskey shots!
There are two sets of bonus symbols in this game, and all too often I found myself hitting two of one sort and two of another, resulting in no win, no bonus, and lots of potential wins blocked by useless bonus symbols. The payouts for both types of scatter are pitifully low too, with just 3x your bet being awarded whenever either set land on screen. This was particularly annoying for me as I really didn't like the "Pick Me" type bonus that is awarded for hitting the second set of scatters.
An unusual problem was the difficulty in finding this machine available for real money play here in the United Kingdom! The page here at AskGamblers states that the game is currently only available in free play mode, but I was able to find three casinos that permitted me to play this game with a little effort. I'm unsure if that was just luck or perhaps a loophole that will soon be closed.
Also, whilst it might seem petty to some I really disliked the way the rules and paytable are presented within this machine. Clicking the ? button in the bottom left hand corner opens a tiny window full of TEXT WRITTEN IN CAPS LOCK in a much bigger font size than is necessary, and there are numerous errors and inaccuracies in the presented information.
