Nitropolis is set in a post-apocalyptic world which is dominated and run by four different clans who are fighting it out to have control of the green nitro with which to fuel their vehicles and ultimately rule Nitropolis.
One thing I must say is that the artwork on this game is very detailed and well done. The game features vibrant and dark colors which really seem to capture that “post-apocalyptic” feel. Overall, ELK Studios have done an exceptional job with the visuals. And as for the soundtrack, it's possibly one of the best so far on any slot I have heard.
Nitropolis features 6-reels, and up to 12-rows, it has paylines of up to 85,155,840. The slot has high volatility and an RTP of 96.1%. Maximum wins are capped at 10,000x.
The paytable consists of 14 symbols in total. You have 8 low paying symbols, which are represented by J, Q, K, A, as well as rogue rats, dirty dawgs logos, gritty kitty, and pug thugs. The premium symbols are represented by the gang leaders, and these consist of a rat from the rogue rats, a dog from the dirty dawgs, a cat from the gritty kitty, and a pug from the pug thugs. There is also the wild, which is represented by an explosion symbol, and the scatter, which is represented by an engine. The highest paying symbol is the dog premium which pays 5x if you land 6 of a kind.
There are some decent features that Nitropolis brings to the table, such as, Winning Respins. These are activated after every win while playing the base or the bonus game. Next up is ELK’s Nitro Reels mechanic where the symbols cover two positions and can contain 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 symbols, thereby affecting the number of win ways. The bonus game is triggered when you land 3 or more scatter symbols which can give you up to 25 spins.
Ultimately, this is a fantastically well-done slot. The graphics and attention to detail are superb. The slot manages to deliver an exciting, intense gaming experience, however triggering the bonus feature can take forever and is very hard.
Honestly speaking, I don’t like Elk Studios games, and I also don’t like multi-reels/rows games either, so Nitropolis is one game that I can never like. I only gave this game one play to try it out and to write a review on it and that was it. Would never go back to play it ever again either.
Nitropolis plays with 35 lines initially, with 6 reels 4 rows, and with a starting bet of 20 cents. Both the Wild and Bonus symbols are non-paying, but most unacceptable of all is the 5x win value of the top paying symbol, followed by all the others, from 3.6x down to a mere 0.5x win, making them extremely low, only suitable for a Megaways game, but it isn’t really one. So wins from Nitropolis would mostly be rubbishly small, with the occasional bigger wins no doubt.
The game has special features that probably makes it slightly more interesting to play, such as its Nitro Reels, having many stacked symbols within one position, can be locked in place for another chance at creating more wins, the number of symbols can be randomly upgraded into more same symbols, up to a maximum of 8 if I’m not mistaken, and also with a free Respin of any winning combination. Any no-win spin may also get a random free Respin as well. Well, all these may sound like quite interesting, but in actual play, I didn’t find them any more interesting than any other usual features.
I’m more interested in a free spins feature game that can play and pay well, which Nitropolis simply cannot provide, due to the extremely low win values of all the symbols in play, and the absence of any win multipliers. Big wins are therefore very dependent on getting as many of the maximum 30720 ways to win that the Nitro Reels could provide. If not many Nitro Reels are in play, the final payout of any free spins feature game would most definitely be very small, may even get a zero win in the end!
My one and only session on this game went badly, but not out of my initial expectations. I managed to get 2 or 3 free spins feature games, but all three games paid rubbishly small wins of under 40x. Needless to say, I wasn’t impressed at all, it gave me no adrenaline rush and no excitement, only much dissatisfaction. Sometimes I really wonder how any player could love playing such a game as Nitropolis, but the truth is, there are indeed many who actually like this sort of game. No, not me, never me, period.
