I've never been to Egypt, but I've certainly been on the Nile. Not the river but the game, hehehe. Which game? A While On The Nile game of course, a 50-paylines game with a minimum starting bet of a high 0.50 EUR per spin. To me, any game that starts with 0.50 EUR bet per spin, or higher, is a game designed to gobble up any player's credits faster, all for the game provider's benefits of course. Hence, I've never liked such games, and this A While On The Nile game is one of them. Not only that, I've never really liked most of NextGen games anyway, but that's just my personal taste.

Looking at the game's paytable revealed nothing exciting at all! The Pharaoh is the Wild symbol, but is a non-paying symbol, which I have never liked in any game. It is stacked on reels 2, 3 and 4, so it could provide lots of Wilds on the reels, but getting wins from them is a totally different matter. It hasn't worked for me so far! The Green Gem is the Scatter symbol, appearing only on reels 2, 3 and 4, pays a lousy 2x total bet for all 3 of them, and awards 5 free spins without any multiplier. Yeah, no doubt the free spins can be retriggered, but what good would that do if all the free spins are without any multiplier, except for what have been chosen before starting the game, but more on this a little later.

The Scarab is the Bonus symbol, yet another non-paying symbol, appearing on reels 1, 3 and 5 to award a Pick And Win Bonus game. Keep picking on 1 item at a time, out of all that 24 items shown, to win cash prizes. Getting a 'Collect' symbol ends the picking. My picks always ended on the 3rd or 4th pick, so that paid damn poorly, to say the least! The highest paying symbol is Cleopatra, but only at 1000x the line bet for getting 5 of her, which is equivalent to 20x the total bet. All the other symbols pay from 300x down to 50x the line bet, making the paytable a very low one.

Before starting the game, there is an option to choose the fixed multiplier for the game, both for the base game as well as for the free spins. At the minimum starting bet of 0.50 EUR, the fixed multiplier is 1x. For a 2x multiplier, the starting bet is doubled to 1.00 EUR. For a 10x multiplier, it is 3.50 EUR! What a ridiculous option, if you ask me! This game is designed only for high rollers, to benefit from the 10x multiplier feature. Low rollers like me just have to live with the damn 1x multiplier instead! I really hate this!

Well, I did play this game a few times over the years, but maybe about 3 or 4 times only, neverthelessly, but all of my plays ended in disaster. Even at the lowest 1x multiplier mode, this game was like a destructive hurricane all the while - on the Nile or off the Nile! So the title 'A While On The Nile' was very appropriate indeed. Why? Simply because, that's as long as you can stay on the Nile - for just a short while. Within minutes after that, you'd most probably end up in the Nile, at its riverbed, as I did! Sheesh!

Overall I have played this game a few times but I can’t say that it is really worth your money. The paytable is pretty poor except the Cleopatra symbol. The wins are small to medium and sometimes it takes a lot of spins to get the free spins bonus. It is really disappointing to see that you lost 200 euros playing with max superbet just to win a small 20 euros in the free spins bonus.

The ancient Egyptian theme is certainly one that belongs to the most popular themes among the developers of online video slots. It makes you pick symbols until it says collect, then the bonus game ends. Had big expectations from it but unfortunately I didn’t win more than 10 euros (20x bet).

Then we also have the free spins feature. This one can get triggered by getting the Jewels Scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4. You then only get 5 free spins, which was kind of disappointing in my opinion. I like the free spins to last as long as possible and that certainly wasn’t the case here.

Random symbols can be turned wild though during the free spins, so the chance on a successful round is bigger. Despite this I didn’t win more than 13 euros I believe (26x bet). That’s when I decided to switch this game for another one.

Didn’t want to push my luck and I was already at loss since base game wins never went further than 30x betsize. One feature I forgot to mention is the Superbet functionality. Overall A While On The Nile hasn’t been good to me and I probably will prefer other slots over this one.

A While on the Nile slot game is one of the latest released one by NextGen and all I can say is I love it. It has an Egyptian theme and though I don’t think it would have amazing graphics quality but it still has impressive look. I like its colours which are properly used and power up the overall visual effects and also like the symbols it uses which are nice, charming and pleasure to play with. Of course they are the most commonly applied Scarabs, Pharaoh, Eye of Ra, hieroglyphs, Cleopatra characters but they have well-designed looks. The little motives and decorations on the columns and the whole background image with floating ships make the screen even more complete so I think there’s nothing here that players could complain for.

The game segment has some unique features but I appreciate some of them that give us some options to win more. The first I have to mention the game uses 4 rows instead of the 3 but the 50-paylines give the slot the chance to be profitable. The slot’s most distinctive attribute is the Super Bet feature which means that a win with Wild is multiplied by x 2, x 4, x 6, x 8 or even x 0. Naturally, the higher multiplier number means higher stake but it’s not proportional as for example calculating with an €1 total stake, getting x 6 multiplier Super Bet require only €5 and x 10 needs €7 bet. On the other hand I noticed using this feature if I play higher multiplier value and higher stake the Wilds are getting disappear so sometimes it’s not worth to use it even if the Pharaoh wild appears in stacked formula on the three inner reels.

I suppose because of this feature and the potential much higher wins the best paying 5 of a kind win pays just 1000 coins which is not so generous especially if a player doesn’t want to use the extra feature. Jewel is the Scatter of the game and pops up on the middle reels and if all three reels contain one of them 5 free spins are awarded while randomly picked symbols may turn into Wilds and even a whole reels can be transformed into substitutes symbols that could cause a nice win. My personal favourite among the features is the Scarab bonus game. Much more better than most netent bonus games! also we can trigger free spins if 3 scatters will land on reels 2 3 4. In free spins we have no any multiplier, but more wilds can appear at random. My biggest win after this feature was somewhere around x 150 total bet. This is great and interesting game which will not make you sad, but i did not like that payouts here is a bit low, best 5 of a kind pays only 40 x total bet, and this is not very nice at all, i think it can be at least 100 x total bet, and then it will be much more interesting to play this slot.
