Shifting Sands: How Eurovision Odds Have Evolved

Proving that you can bet on basically anything is the hot betting table for the Eurovision Finale taking place on Saturday, 17, in Basel. Sweden's trio KAJ are the hot favourites to win with their witty song Bara Bada Bastu, which translates as "Just Take A Sauna". Hot on their heels are Austria, France, and the Netherlands. Do you agree with these predictions?

The Eurovision landscape has shifted from previous odds and predictions, pushing different countries forward towards the Final. While Sweden remains in first place with odds of 1.8 to 2.2, Austria holds the second position with odds of 3.75 to 4.

France continues to be the third favourite, with odds ranging between 8.0 and 13.0. Meanwhile, Israel has fallen from third to sixth place, allowing the Netherlands to shine with odds of 9 to 15. Finland remains in fifth place, while Belgium, previously in sixth place, did not qualify for the Final.

First Semi-Final

The evening of Eurovision's First Semi-Final kicked off with over 30 dancers captivating the audience in the mesmerising opening act, "Raw Nature", which beautifully recreated the journey of Eurovision from 1956 to the present day.

They dazzled with jumps, making saltos, and performing acrobatics. An adorable kid played the flute, and singers dressed in vibrant Ethno costumes. Ethno sound meets electronic music in this attention-grabbing sequence. Everyone felt welcome to St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, on the 69th. Eurovision Song Contest.

The performances were diverse, featuring flames, lights, swings, ropes, and a plethora of costumes. Performers ranged from the apocalyptic vibes of Poland, the humorous flair of Estonia, and the melodic tones of Portugal, to the romantic sounds of Slovenia, the fiery rhythms of Spain, and the catchy beats of the Netherlands.

Celine Dion, a star who won the contest for Switzerland in 1988, couldn’t make it here in person, but greeted the audience with a moving message:

I'd love nothing more than to be with you. Switzerland will forever hold a special place in my heart. It's the country that believed in me and gave me the chance to be part of something so extraordinary.

During the voting, a memorable halftime show was made by two hilarious and entertaining Swiss hosts, named" Made in Switzerland.

Second Semi-Final

The second semi-final evening was a tribute to the fans, starting with a clip featuring Philip, a fan for 50 years, alongside the same entertaining hosts. They reminded us that Eurovision began in Switzerland in 1956 and lamented those who lost the battle for the remote control (football fans). They also highlighted the similarities between Eurovision and football, noting that Eurovision betting odds are akin to sports betting.

Performances were colourful, each telling its own enchanting story. From the magical Latvian lagoon, the stunningly cosmic Ireland, captivating Greece, hypnotic Lithuania, and touching France, to the energetic Germany.

While the "big five" went straight to the final, they still delivered some fascinating performances.

As the voting took place, we were treated to a song and dance number that interrogated the Swiss obsession with time and punctuality:

Time is not just ticking. It’s dancing, laughing, singing It’s beating, every second. It’s feeling every moment I won’t just let life pass by like the ticking of a clock. I’ll live it, love it, make it mine.
