Check Cashing Fiasco
On March 3rd, 2020 I made a withdrawal from my Bovada account for $1,635.35. I chose check by courier (I will never do that again). I received the check dated for March 9th in a FedEx Epress Envelope. Upon reviewing the check, it was issued by some some mysterious Canadian company called Definite Mobile Inc.
Like any check I receive, I immediately tried to deposit it into my banking app. I received error after error (due to being issued from a Canadian Bank). I tried a few more times over the coming days, and still no success. Upon doing some research, I figure I will take it in to the closest branch and have it deposited there. Keep in mind, this is at the beginning of shut down due to COVID, and banks are closed, and I wasn't planning on going in to a bank anytime soon.
So I placed the check on the kitchen counter and kind of forgot about it. Fast forward to when I stumble upon the check while cleaning out a drawer. The check claims to be void after 90 days. So I reached out to Bovada Customer service to request a new check to be issued or for funds to be credited back to my account, issued in Bitcoin, etc.
I was informed that because the check is over 6 months of age and that it cannot be cashed out now.
I ask that they reissue a check or credit my account so I can withdraw my money in a different way.
I just don't understand ; If I write to check to someone, and they forget to cash it and it expires. The money is still in my bank account, and I can easily reissue a check. It should be the same for Bovada.
What options do I have?
