The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 is entering its final stages, with the semi-final matches scheduled for July 22 and 23. First on are England and Italy, followed by a duel between Germany and Spain.
Let’s look into each individual match and the participating teams, before we check the odds the bookmakers have set for them.
England vs Italy
The first semi-final match will be played on Tuesday, July 22, and reigning champions, England, will be the formal host to Italy in Geneva.
England
They didn’t have an easy road to this stage and had to go through a penalty shootout to eliminate Sweden in the quarter-final round. The group stage was not a walk in the park either, as the Lionesses lost their opening match against France before beating the Netherlands and Wales comfortably to reach the knockout phase.
The good news for them is that the team captain, Leah Williamson, has returned to training following the ankle injury in the team’s previous match and is expected to be on the team in the semi-final clash.
In their previous matches on the Euros, England lost five matches, with one draw. However, England has won four of their last five head-to-head matches.
While the tradition is not on their side, the odds certainly are, with England considered a favourite to reach the final at odds around 1.30.
Italy
A late winner from Girelli brought Italy a hard-earned victory against Norway and a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face the defending champions. Cristiana Girelly actually scored both goals for Italy in their 2-1 win in the quarter-finals.
Their group-stage matches were a bit of a downward spiral, if we look at the scores, but one victory and a draw were enough to earn them a second place in Group B, right behind Spain, who defeated them 3-1 in the third round.
According to the bookmakers, Italy has a slim chance of reaching the final, with odds of around 4.00, and the odds of around 6.00 of winning the semi-final match.
Germany vs Spain
The second semi-final match will be played in Zurich on Wednesday, July 23, and the record eight-time champions Germany will host the reigning world champions, Spain.
Germany
The German national team has reached the semi-finals record 11 times out of the last 12 times they participated in the Euros. They also needed a penalty shootout to reach this stage in Switzerland this year, eliminating France in the quarter-finals.
The team finished the game with ten players once again, with Hendrich being sent off in the 13th minute, following Wamser's red card in the third-round match against Sweden. They lost the match against Sweden 4-1, but won the first two in the group stage.
Despite history being on their side, Germany is not a favourite to advance to the final, with odds of around 4.00, and even less so to win the match against Spain, where the bookmakers have set their odds at around 6.00.
Spain
The Spanish team has been almost flawless in the tournament so far, having comfortably won all their matches up until the semi-finals, and having two of the tournament's top scorers on their team. Spain has come to the tournament as the reigning world champion and a team that has won six out of its seven matches since the start of 2025.
However, Spain hasn’t had much success in the Euros, and this is only their second appearance in the competition semi-finals. All things considered, it seems that it has come at the right time, if Spain manages to maintain the winning streak and keep the momentum on its side.
The bookmakers certainly think so, as Spain has the same odds as England of reaching the final, and the odds of around 1.50 to win their semi-final match.
