Monday morning brought us the (not so) shocking news of Manchester United's sacking of the manager, Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese had been in charge for only 14 months before being let go by the Red Devils.
The news comes after the latest unsatisfying result, the 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road, and a meeting Amorim had with the club executives.
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Track Record
While some may argue that the decision to sack Amorim was a bit premature, the fact is that he won only 25 of his 63 games in charge of Manchester United, with a win percentage of 36.92% overall, and 31.9% in the Premier League.
That’s the lowest percentage of all Man Utd managers in the post-Alex-Ferguson era.
Manchester United currently sits in the sixth position on the Premier League table, which doesn’t sound too bad considering the club’s previous disastrous season. However, they are far behind the current leaders, Arsenal.
A club of such a history and reputation as Manchester United can’t allow many more strikes and second chances, so it’s no surprise that the executives didn’t have more patience for the Portuguese.
Who Are the Favourites to Replace Amorim?
Darren Fletcher will be the interim Man Utd manager for the 7 January match against Burnley. The former Red Devils midfielder is currently the under-18s coach at Manchester United and is one of the candidates for the position of permanent Man Utd manager.
According to bookmakers, other top candidates are Oliver Glasner, the current manager of the Premier League side Crystal Palace, Enzo Maresca, who has recently been sacked by Chelsea, and former England manager Gareth Southgate.
Many sportsbooks offer odds for the next permanent Manchester United manager, so you can grab some bonuses and wager on your favourite.
