UEFA Clubs Competitions Recap: 26-28 November Action

European club football is back after the international break, and we saw plenty of action across all three UEFA club competitions these past three days. Here’s what happened at football pitches around Europe and what it means for the current standings.

Champions League Matchday 5: Liverpool Refuses to Drop Points

Another match and another victory for Arne Slot’s side, who now has 15 points at the top of the table. The Reds won against Real Madrid, who keeps dropping points in this Champions League campaign. And they are not the only ones, as Guardiola’s Manchester City lost another two after managing only a draw against Eredivisie’s last season’s runner-ups, Feyenoord, leaving Pep Guardiola scratching his face in despair.

Aston Villa also kept dropping points after a strong start, with a goalless draw with Juventus, while Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen returned to the winning streak. Inter Milan also scored another victory, beating RB Leipzig 1-0, and now sitting second with 13 points, followed by Barcelona and Dortmund with 12.

Europa League Matchday 5 Scores: Lazio, Athletic Club and Eintracht Frankfurt Now Tied at the Top

The matchday 5 of the Europa League saw Lazio dropping points for the first time in this campaign after a goalless draw with Bulgarian Ludogorets. Both Lazio and Athletic Club have already reached the Europa League knockout stage with these results.

Ajax suffered its first loss this Thursday, losing 2-0 to Real Sociedad. Galatasaray and Anderlecht also both dropped points after draws with AZ Alkmaar and FC Porto, respectively. A bit further down on the table, Manchester United scored its second victory, the first with the new manager, Ruben Amorim, after defeating Bodo/Glimt 3-0.

Conference League Matchday 4: Chelsea and Legia Warsawa Are at 4 out of 4

Chelsea and Legia Warszawa have already secured their positions in the knockout phase, and Jagiellonia, SK Rapid Wien and Vitória SC have their spot in the playoffs, if not the knockout, even though the latter three won only a point each in the fourth round.

Fiorentina won its match against Pafos after the defeat the Italian club suffered in the previous round to stay close to the top with nine points. Heidenheim suffered its first defeat after losing 2-0 to Chelsea but remains a strong contender for the knockout phase with nine points. Olimpija and Lugano won their respective games and accumulated nine points as well.
