The 2026 Australian Open started on Sunday, 18 January. The tournament is played at Melbourne Park, and this is its 114th edition.
What We Know From Last Season's Event?
Last season’s tournament was very exciting, and it even brought some surprises in the end. The defending champion, Jannik Sinner, managed to defend the men's singles title won in 2024 by defeating Alexander Zverev 3-0.
The bookies’ second favourite, Carlos Alcaraz, lost in the quarter-finals to the 10-time champion, Novak Djokovic, who was the third favourite for the title back then.
In the men’s doubles final, Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten defeated Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori to claim the title.
When we look at the women’s singles, the (somewhat) surprise champion was Madison Keys, who defeated the defending champion and bookies’ favourite, Aryna Sabalenka, in the final. She also defeated the second favourite, Iga Swiatek, in the semi-finals.
Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend claimed the women’s doubles title by defeating the defending champion Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko.
Who Will Win This Season?
When we look at the women’s singles, the favourites remain the same: Aryna Sabalenka as the number one favourite, followed by Iga Swiatek. The third-favourite according to bookies is Elena Rybakina, and the fourth is Amanda Anisimova.
If we look at the men’s singles, the top two favourites are also the same as in the previous season, with Jannik Sinner being the first and Carlos Alcaraz the second favourite. Novak Djokovic has risen to become the third-favourite, followed by Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.
