Betting Tip: Liverpool – Atletico Madrid

Liverpool is comfortably one of the best teams in the world; any Anfield visitors are usually overwhelmed, and, at this particular point in time, the English appear to clearly be a superior side to Atletico. The latter have struggled in defence, and Liverpool to win is the pick here, though the odds don’t reflect just how challenging Champions League football is at this level.

  • Recommendation: Liverpool Win
  • Odds: 1.50 (at the time of writing)

Liverpool

Liverpool were clearly the best team in last season’s Premier League, winning another championship. Even more impressively, the title came in a rather comfortable fashion, and the Reds are the favourites to win it yet again this season.

Their Champions League campaign met an end in the face of eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain, in a highly contested two-leg Round of 16 duel (0-1, 1-0 - 1-4 pens). Arne Slot’s first season at the helm was a resounding success, as the Dutchman was a great fit from the get-go.

The board identified that this was the time to invest heavily in the team, which led to a remarkable transfer window, the most expensive in the club's history.

After parting ways withLuis Diaz (winger, Bayern Munich), Darwin Nunez (centre forward, Al Hilal SFC), Jarell Quansah (centre back, Bayer Leverkusen), and Alexander Arnold (right back, Real Madrid), Liverpool went all in.

They added Alexander Isak (centre forward, Newcastle, most expensive player in Premier League history), Florian Wirtz (attacking midfield, Bayer Leverkusen), Hugo Ekitike (centre forward, Eintracht Frankfurt), Jeremie Frimpong (right back, Bayer Leverkusen), and Milos Kerkez (left back, Bournemouth).

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid finished the first half of last season on top of La Liga, but the campaign’s finale was very different. Thanks to several ups and downs during the second half of the season, the team dropped all the way to third, 12 points away from the top.

The start to the new season is as problematic as possible, due to both poor performances and results. There is a really big defensive problem to be solved.

Their most significant additions were Alex Baena (winger, Villareal), David Hancko (centre back, Feyenord), Johny Cardoso (central midfield, Real Betis), Thiago Almada (winger, Botafogo), and Giacomo Raspadori (second striker, Napoli).
