Slovakia - Germany Match Preview and Betting Tips

Match for the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification Group A, at Národný futbalový štadión, in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Facts

  • This is the fourth official match between the two teams. Germany has won all three of their clashes, while Slovakia have only won a single friendly game, back in May 2016.
  • Germany is fresh off two consecutive losses (2-1 to Portugal and 2-0 to France), both in the Nations League Finals stage.
  • Slovakia has not won a game since November 19, 2024, with a 2-1 victory over Estonia, having lost three and drawn one match since then.
  • Slovakia have played four games in 2025, failing to score in three of them, and conceding 6 goals.

Betting Tip: Slovakia - Germany

The fact that Germany failed to find the net in their last game against France was a particularly rare occurrence. This will be the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Germans, and we believe it is unlikely they will encounter significant difficulties in coming away with a win.

Considering Germany’s attacking prowess but also their defensive shortcomings, BTTS is a good option on its own. Still, even better odds are offered by the combo of Germany to win and Over 2,5 Goals.

  • Betting tip: Germany to win & Over 2,5 goals
  • Odds: 2.20 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 5

Slovakia

The year 2025 has been the stuff of nightmares for Slovakia, as the team has still not won a game. The problems started with the Nations League’s playoffs for promotion to League B. They faced Slovenia over two legs, failed to score in either game, and conceded in the Ljubljana second leg, failing to earn promotion from League C.

The Slovaks struggle to create chances and score goals, while their defensive performances also fail to inspire confidence. They are competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers Group A alongside Germany, Luxembourg, and Northern Ireland.

Germany

Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany continues on its quest to find its new identity. They faltered in Euro 2024, losing to eventual winners Spain in the quarter finals. In the Nations League, they finished first in League A’s Group 4 but lost twice in the final stage to finish 4th.

Under Nagelsmann, the Germans have won 12 games, drawn six, and lost five. Out of them, 14 ended with less than three goals scored, while Germany has kept just five clean sheets and has scored at least twice in 14 matches.

It’s clear they are an attacking team, relying on the talent of their frontline while trying to find the proper defensive configuration.
