Royal Ascot Day Five Tips: Group Race Previews

And just like that, we have arrived at the final day of Royal Ascot 2025.

It has been a week of mixed results, but let's finish on a high as we look at the last Group races at Royal Ascot.

Group 2 Hardwick Stakes - 1m4f

The Hardwick Stakes boasts a prestigious honours roll of winners over the years, with the likes of Harbinger, Telescope, Crystal Ocean, Broome, and Pyledriver all recording a win. This year's renewal isn't the strongest on paper. The globetrotting Group 1 winner Rebel's Romance is the worthy favourite after a win over 1m6f last time out and now drops down to his preferred trip.

He will be hard to beat if he can bring his form from outside the UK into here, but one that I have been waiting to run back over this tip is AL RIFFA. He has only been tried twice over this trip, and one of those times resulted in an impressive win in the German Derby. He was then tried in the Prix d'Arc de Triomphe, but a combination of ground and inexperience got the better of him.

He made a lovely comeback at Group 1 level Longchamp, again leaving the impression that a step up in trip could be just around the corner.

  • Selection: Al Riffa 6/1
  • Danger: Rebel's Romance 11/4

Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes - 6f

The Ballydoyle Australian import was all the talk of the town before his debut at the Curragh, but just like the weather that day, his performance was damp and dull. Storm Boy ended up finishing last of the nine runners at the Curragh, but you should expect to see a totally different prospect this time around. The Japanese runner Santono Reve brings a different dimension to the race, but his form is hard to gauge when compared to his UK and Ireland rivals.

All the money has been for the French runner Lazzat, who showed blistering pace at Longchamp to win by over five lengths. However, this may be best left to last season's Commonwealth Cup winner, INISHERIN. This big, imposing son of Shamardal was an easy winner of the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup last season and had a perfect prep for a repeat Royal Ascot success when holding off the late challenge of Flora Of Bermuda in the Duke OF York Clipper Stakes at York.

That run will have put him spot-on for this, and this stiff 6f brings out the best in Inisherin.

  • Selection: Inisherin 9/2
  • Danger: Storm Boy 5/1

Group 3 Jersey Stakes - 7f

It's an intensely competitive Group 3 to solve here, with not many runners that can be ruled out with confidence. The unbeaten Remmooz is a good starting point. He has been good in his two wins to date at Doncaster, where his debut win in a novice race is working out well. His second win booked his ticket for Royal Ascot, and with a lot more to come, it's hard to see him not bang there at the finish.

Comanche Brave will be popular in the market with Ryan More taking the ride for Donnacha O'Brien, but the one who may be worth siding with at much bigger odds is SEAGULLS ELEVEN. This three-year-old was highly tried in his two-year-old season, with his final three runs last season being in Group 1 company.

That trend wasn't bucked as he was trusted into the 2000 Guineas, where his race was over early on after missing the break and getting lit up. He has since been gelded, which should help settle him more, and now, combined with the big drop in class, Seagulls Eleven.

  • Selection: Seagulls Eleven 16/1
  • Danger: Remmooz 5/1

Queen Alexandra Stakes - 2m5f

The final race of Royal Ascot 2025 is going to test not only everyone's stamina but also their will go places they have never gone before on a racecourse. The jumps trainers have dominated the Queen Alexandra over the years, and this year looks like it is going to follow that trend with SOBER.

The newly acquired French import to the Willie Mullins stable has already gotten off the mark for the UK and Irish Champion National Hunt trainer. Now, faced with a return to the level, this former Group 2 winner looks tailor-made for what this race will ask of him. The only slight worry would be the underfoot conditions, but he looks the clear best here. \

The one that can give him the most to do is Samui, who finished a gallant third in the Copper House Stakes on Tuesday.

  • Selection: Sober 10/11
  • Danger: Samui 6/1
