Roma

Two games and two wins for Roma this season, both ending with the same score (1-0). The Romans overcame Bologna in the opener, while escaping with a win from Pisa in the second round. The Giampiero Gasperini era in Rome is off to an excellent start, and the veteran manager appears to have already instilled his philosophy into his new players.

At Pisa, Roma did come across a rather formidable opponent that troubled them in the first half, but, as usual, everything changed for the better when Paulo Dybala entered the game. The Argentinian playmaker combined with his compatriot Matias Soule beautifully at the start of the second half, and the latter scored the eventual winner. Roma were able to hold off their opponents rather comfortably in the remainder of the game.

The Giallorossi are now looking for their third consecutive win, but they will have to accomplish that without injured winger Bailey. Gasperini welcomes back nine players who featured with their national teams during the break.

Torino

Torino has started off the new season in concerning ways. In the opener against Inter, the Turin team suffered a very heavy defeat (5-0), followed by a goalless draw at home with Fiorentina, in a game that could easily have gone worse. They created a big chance early on with Simeone, and not much after that.

Torino were constantly on the defensive, and goalkeeper Israel is to thank for maintaining the clean sheet (alongside Fiorentina’s wastefulness). Manager Marco Baroni is called to find solutions to these early problems, and the team must be more competitive right away, especially on the attacking side, where creativity has been lacking.

Baroni is not facing any major squad issues, as left back Nkunku, acquired at the transfer deadline from German side Eintracht Frankfurt, is already available. Eleven Torino players played with their national teams during the break.
