West Ham – Crystal Palace Predictions and analysis

West Ham and Crystal Palace are playing their match for the 5th round of the Premier League, at London Stadium, home of West Ham.

Facts

  • West Ham’s last home win against Crystal Palace came in December 2018 (3-2). In six games since, they’ve lost three and drawn three matches.
  • After their 2016 move to London Stadium, the Hammers have won only two of their nine games against the Eagles.
  • Palace manager Oliver Glasner has won both times he visited London Stadium to face West Ham, first as Eintracht Frankfurt manager in 2022 (2-1 win for the Europa League semi-finals) and then as Palace manager in January 2025 (0-2).

Betting Tip: West Ham – Crystal Palace

Dismay is here to stay for West Ham, and it’s rather difficult to see how manager Graham Potter can survive at the helm much longer. Palace, on the other hand, have hardly been impressive themselves, especially on the attack.

They do, however, possess a remarkable defensive line, especially away from home, and they have had their way against West Ham at London Stadium. They have the opportunity to avoid defeat here, and maybe a bit more.

West Ham

West Ham succumbed to London rivals Spurs at home, suffering a disappointing 0-3 defeat. They were respectable in the first half, including creating a big chance to take the lead with Lucas Paqueta.

That did not last, and the second half was all Spurs. They scored just two minutes in with a set piece, and things went from bad to worse for West Ham following the red card to Thomas Soucek in the 54th minute. That sealed the deal, as they conceded a second goal just three minutes later, and a third in the 64th minute.

With that loss, West Ham are now in the relegation zone, at 18th place, and their sole win of the season, that away at Forest, is now in the rearview mirror for good. The game against Spurs was an unfortunate return to performances that have no intensity, alongside serious defensive issues and ‘limp’ attacking play.

It’s hardly a surprise that manager Graham Potter is already on the hot seat. By every account, the 50-year-old manager will not last very long at the helm of West Ham, and former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is rumoured to be in the mix to replace him, following his recent dismissal from Forest.

Crystal Palace

The goalless home draw against Sunderland is a game everyone at Palace believes they should have won. The Eagles dominated the game, especially the second half, but they were unable to put one past goalkeeper Roefs, who pulled off a remarkable series of saves.

Despite that, the positive performance and the 9th consecutive unbeaten game this season certainly inspire confidence and leave manager Oliver Glasner relatively pleased, as his team is currently in 9th place.

That being said, it is abundantly clear that Palace are lacking the same type of attacking dynamism that characterised them in the past, affected by the departure of attacking midfielder Eze and the injuries of centre back Wharton and winger Sarr.

The Eagles are yet to concede a goal away from home this season in three games between the Premier League and European football, showing they can control the game’s pace in adequate fashion. In their away draw vs Chelsea and their away win vs Aston Villa, the Eagles were hardly threatened, and they were the team creating the majority of the chances.
