Tottenham
Tottenham secured a crucial 2-1 victory at Leeds in the previous round. They were fortunate early on, as the hosts struck Vicario’s crossbar with their first chance of the game. However, they capitalised on their first big chance and took the lead in the 23rd minute with a superb finish from Tel.
The lead did not last, as Leeds equalised shortly after in the 34th minute. Thomas Frank's team came out more determined in the second half. With a stunning goal from Kudus in the 57th minute, they secured three valuable points, showing character and solidity in key moments.
This win brought Thomas Frank’s side to third place in the league, just two points behind leaders Arsenal. They are now unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions, four of them in the Premier League, and are beginning to consolidate their position close to the top.
Although their football isn't dazzling, the team stands out for its efficiency and the variety of players who score goals. Even so, their defensive weakness persists, and they have kept a clean sheet in only one of their last five matches. Still, this is a great progress from the terrible last season.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa won 2-1 at home against Burnley, dominating the match almost completely, although the closing stages of the game were rather stress-inducing. Unai Emery's team showed their superiority from the start, with an inspired Malen opening the scoreboard in the 25th minute with a superb cross and repeating a similar effort in the 63rd minute.
Burnley pulled one back in the 78th minute following a set piece, but failed to cause any further problems, so the three points remained at Villa Park.
Thanks to this victory, Aston Villa climbed to 13th in the table and has now won four consecutive matches in all competitions, two of them in the Premier League. Results aside, the team has regained its attacking punch and confidence, hallmarks of the previous season’s success.
Despite their star striker, Watkins, going through a dry spell, the Villans have shown notable collective growth and a much more solid defence, which is key to their recent recovery.
