Manchester City - Everton betting recommendation

Manchester City - Everton Preview and Betting Prediction

Manchester City hosts Everton in their match for the 8th round of the Premier League at Etihad Stadium.

Facts

  • Manchester City is undefeated in their last 17 against Everton. They have won 14 of those games in all competitions, while their last defeat came in January 2017 (4-0 away defeat).
  • Everton has not won away at Manchester City since December 2010 (1-2). Since then, the Toffees have lost nine of their last 15 visits to the Etihad.
  • Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has never lost a match at home against his Everton counterpart, David Moyes, winning all eight of such duels.

Betting Tip: Manchester City - Everton

Manchester City is not quite the powerhouse they have been in recent years, yet their attacking prowess can hardly be doubted, especially with how Haaland has been performing. They are the clear favourites against an Everton team that is much less threatening without their creative engine, Jack Grealish. We expect a comfortable City win.

  • Prediction: Manchester City to win & over 2.5 goals
  • Odds: 1.81 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 5

Manchester City

Manchester City secured a 1-0 win away to Brentford. The Citizens capitalised on a strong first-half display, taking the lead in the ninth minute with a determined Haaland scoring a difficult goal.

They had created more chances through Foden and Reijnders to seal the deal, but their second-half performance was not as convincing as the first. Later on, Donnarumma made a superb save to preserve the lead, though he followed that up with a costly error that almost gifted Brentford an equaliser.

Even so, Pep Guardiola’s side held on and climbed to fifth place in the table, just three points off the top. Their seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions provides a solid foundation, though City still lack the same consistency they showed in the past.

Defensive errors remain frequent, but Haaland continues to be a goalscoring guarantee. The Norwegian striker has already scored twelve times in nine matches.

Everton

Everton celebrated a huge comeback win at home against Crystal Palace, prevailing 2-1. For seventy minutes, though, they were under heavy pressure. Only the brilliance of goalkeeper Pickford allowed them to stay competitive.

They fell behind in the 37th minute and were again saved by Pickford early in the second half. The game turned around in the 76th when Everton won a penalty, converted by Ndiaye. From that point on, the Toffees were excellent, and Grealish found a (somewhat lucky) 96th-minute goal for a thrilling win.

This result ended a run of four matches without victory in all competitions, lifting Everton to eighth place and considerably improving the atmosphere around the team. Still, stability remains elusive.

David Moyes’ team continues to lack defensive cohesion and relies heavily on the talent of Grealish. The latter will, however, miss this fixture as he is on loan from Manchester City.
