Betting Tip Leeds - Newcastle
Leeds were disappointing against Arsenal, but they have an opportunity here to return to positive performances in front of their passionate home crowd. Newcastle are a very talented team, but they are plagued by significant absences up front, and the Whites can come away with a point.
- Prediction: Leeds to win or draw
- Odds: 1.70 (at the time of writing)
Leeds
Leeds suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in London. The Whites were hammered from the beginning of the game and withstood the pressure for the first half-hour (creating a single chance of their own).
They conceded in the 34th minute, and everything collapsed after that. Arsenal added a second in the first half stoppage time, a sign of things to come. The second half was a monologue, and Leeds conceded twice right after the break, while the humiliating defeat was topped off by a penalty in the 96th minute.
Daniel Farke admitted that Arsenal were the far better team and expressed his displeasure with the way his defence handled set pieces. He certainly cannot be happy with the way his attack performed, creating minimal trouble for Arsenal. Still, the Whites are hopeful that a return to Elland Road will be a return to wins, following their victory over Everton in the opener.
Reinforcements are on the way as well. Left-winger Okafor arrived from AC Milan and already featured for a few minutes in London, hoping to be a bigger part of Farke’s future plans. At the same time, Leeds added right-back Justin from Leicester for 11.5 Euros, and they also hope to add another centre back.
Newcastle
Newcastle will be lamenting the 2-3 home defeat to Liverpool for quite some time. The Magpies were the better team for the first half-hour of the contest before conceding a somewhat unexpected goal in the 35th minute. To make matters worse, forward Gordon was sent off in the first half stoppage time, and Liverpool scored again at the start of the second half.
Despite all that, Newcastle were able to rally back, thanks to goals by Bruno Guimaraes (57’) and Osula (88’). After all that, the Magpies conceded a crushing goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time to knock them out.
Winless and with just a single point after two games, the team’s place in the standings is not necessarily representative of their performances. The Magpies performed admirably in both games and missed plenty of opportunities; it’s exactly this kind of opportunity that the absent striker Isak is so adept at finishing.
Newcastle’s board has tried just about everything to bridge the gap with the Swedish striker and get him to return to the team. It’s all been for nought, as Isak insists on leaving the team. Gordon’s sending off and suspension compound the attacking problems plaguing Eddie Howe. At the same time, the team’s efforts to add more attacking talent have so far been unsuccessful, with the Magpies being turned away from both Brentford (for Wissa) and Wolves (for Strand Larsen).
