Arsenal are fresh off a positive result and are approaching this title-contenders clash at home, where they have been more efficient on the attack and especially difficult to penetrate defensively. Arsenal
Yet another comfortable home win for Arsenal, this time putting three goals past Nottingham Forest and conceding none. Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the game from the get-go, creating plenty of opportunities to score while keeping Forest at bay.
It took a wonderful long-range effort by Martin Zubimendi to break the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark. The second half was much more straightforward, as the Gunners scored straight away with Viktor Gyokeres. Zubmiendi added his second of the day in the 79th minute to put the cherry on top.
That win brought Arsenal up to second place in the standings, and, more importantly, it was an impressive response to the disappointing away defeat to Liverpool before the international break. The improved attacking output is a welcome sight, while the Gunners remain a very formidable defensive team.
They have won two home games in a very convincing fashion, but the injury problems might catch up to them soon if things continue like that, and with the Champions League’s added workload. It’s a good test for Arsenal’s improved squad depth.
Manchester City
Manchester City secured an impressive and comfortable 3-0 win over city rivals Manchester United at home. They were the better side right away, creating opportunities and applying a lot of pressure.
That paid off, and City scored in just the 18th minute of the game with Phil Foden’s header. More of the same in the second, where Erling Haaland took charge, scoring twice and sealing the deal.
This result was a much-needed return to positivity for Manchester City, who are in 8th place. The mini-crisis of two consecutive losses prior to the international break is in the rearview mirror, and City reminded to friend and foe alike just how dominant they can be. In addition, Pep Guardiola has to be thrilled with the way Erling Haaland has been performing.
The Norwegian superstar has scored 11 times in 6 games for City and the Norwegian National team, claiming the mantle of team leader. The Cityzens will be challenged by the increasing workload thanks to the Champions League, and it remains to be seen how they’ll handle it.
