Newcastle

Newcastle are coming into this game under pressure for a positive result. They lost at Arsenal last week, and had they won that game, they would have clinched a Champions League spot and would have finished second.

Now, it’s imperative to take care of business vs Everton. The 1-0 defeat at the Emirates is not a fair representation of the game. Newcastle missed many chances to take the lead, but Raya was excellent. Their efforts to keep a clean sheet proved futile thanks to a fantastic strike by Declan Rice.

After that, Newcastle tried to equalise, but that was a tall order, especially without Isak. The Swede was a late scratch, and it was impossible to fill his boots. Barnes, Gordon, and Murphy were not effective, and defeat was the final result.

That makes the game against Everton a must-win. If they deliver, the Magpies will return to the Champions League, a result that would be representative of how good they’ve been this season. They need to show discipline against an opponent who has nothing to lose or gain from this.

Everton

Everton managed to say goodbye to Goodison Park in an appropriate manner. In their last game in the historic grounds, they defeated Southampton 2-0, delivering satisfaction for their fans and inspiring hope that the future in the new stadium will be bright.

It’s high time for a new start, as the team has been hovering around the bottom of the standings for a few years now. This season is yet another season with a bottom-half finish, and yet another season with serious, consistent attacking issues. The talent to make a difference is just not there.

Ndiaye was the best player on the team for a while, and his injury was a big blow for Everton. The same is true for Dwight McNeil. It is no coincidence that these two were the ones who took control against the Saints.

The former scored both goals of the game, while the latter delivered a beautiful assist for the second. In the final game of the season, the Toffees have nothing to play for as their final spot in the table is fixed, and David Moyes is expected to give opportunities to the youngsters and players deeper in the squad. It has been a limited squad to begin with.
