Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad was fortunate to leave Vigo with a point after a 1-1 draw against Celta. Sociedad struggled early on and paid the price in the 20th minute, conceding in the hosts’ first meaningful opportunity, through a swift counterattack.
They picked up the pace after the half-hour mark and gained a numerical advantage in the first-half stoppage time (45+1’), which they took advantage of.
In the final half-hour of the game, they ramped up the intensity and eventually equalised in the 89th minute through a Soler header. The Basque side has now collected only four points from their last seven league games (1–1–5), but under-pressure coach Francisco has been spared from dismissal for the moment.
Their biggest issue remains their defence, as clean sheets are hard to come by. They have conceded in eight of their nine league fixtures, with their only clean sheet coinciding with their sole victory. Kubo remains doubtful, while striker Oskarsson is still unavailable.
Sevilla
Sevilla had only themselves to blame for a painful 3-1 home defeat to Mallorca, in what was a major setback after recent progress. Riding the momentum of consecutive wins, Sevilla took the lead in the 16th minute but failed to capitalise on it.
After the break, they lost both defensive shape and focus, allowing the visitors to equalise in the 67th minute following an individual error.
That goal triggered a collapse: within five minutes (72’, 77’) they conceded twice more, with their defence showing absolutely no resistance. Thus ended their brief revival, marking the first defeat after two consecutive victories, spoiling the momentum from their 4-0 win over Barcelona.
On the positive side, they have found the net in all nine league matches so far. Meanwhile, reports emerged of six separate investment groups expressing interest in acquiring a majority stake in the club, suggesting possible changes in ownership ahead.
Out injured are defender Azpilicueta and midfielder Batista Mendy, while centre-back Nianzou and forward Alfonso González are close to returning.
