Oviedo

Oviedo’s away win at Valencia on Tuesday felt like it was worth its weight in gold. The game took place a day later than initially scheduled, due to adverse weather conditions. Oviedo started off slowly and conceded a goal in the 4th minute, while their first-half attacking performance left a lot to be desired.

Goalkeeper Escandell kept his team in the game later on, as he saved Danjuma’s penalty in the 75th minute. That was a turning point.

The team managed to secure an equaliser in the 85th minute through a set piece and a fortuitous bounce of the ball. Mere seconds later, Oviedo completed the miraculous comeback in the counterattack. Lady luck was once again on their side, as Rondon’s finish was deflected before making its way to the net.

The team went down to ten men in the 93rd minute but managed to hold on for the win. It was their first win after three consecutive defeats and their second of the campaign. It bought them some time to reorganise mentally, and some breathing room in the standings. Starting midfielder Ilic is suspended, while starting defender Nacho Vidal is a question mark.

Levante

Levante’s 1-1 draw away at Getafe left a bittersweet taste in everyone’s mouth. On the one hand, the team showed improvement compared to the past matches. On the other hand, they were unable to secure a win.

They started off strong and controlled the game in the first half, taking the lead in the 26th minute with a goal from Romero, who capped off a brilliant run by Brugue.

The second half was a different story, as Levante allowed their opponents to gain ground and eventually equalise (57’) through a set piece. From that point onwards, Levante appeared content with a draw and avoided any risk-taking.

Five points in seven games is not a tally to be proud of (1-2-4 record), even though the schedule was challenging.

The one consistent issue is the team’s defensive problems, as they have conceded 14 times while keeping one clean sheet in the game against Girona, where the latter went down to nine men at the halfway point. Midfielder Arriaga is back to full fitness, and there are no other issues.
