Germany
Germany is ready for its first Nations League semi-final appearance, and everyone around the team is overjoyed. Justifiably so, considering their performances over the last year have been positive, following the conclusion of the Euros.
The team has played eight games (all in the Nations League) since the missed Euros semi-final, and is unbeaten, winning five and drawing three. On March 20 and 23, they faced Italy twice for the quarter-finals, and those were their most recent games.
The first game took place in the San Siro, and Germany escaped with a huge 1-2 win. The home side took an early lead with Tonali, but Julian Nagelsmann’s team was able to come all the way back in the second half, thanks to Kleindienst’s equaliser and Goretzka’s eventual winner.
In the second leg, at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany was the superior side, but only in the first half when they took a decisive three-goal lead. Kimmich opened the floodgates with a penalty at the half-hour mark, followed by goals from Musiala and Kleindienst.
The second half was a different story. Germany relaxed and Italy took advantage, scoring thrice (!) to equalise the game (the last came in the 95th minute), but the home side eventually progressed.

Portugal
A return to a Nations League semi-final for the first time since 2019, the first year of the competition, and the one Portugal won. Ever since, Portugal has failed to advance beyond the group stage, finishing second behind France and Spain, respectively.
In this tournament, Portugal dominated throughout the group stage, finishing first in Group A alongside Croatia, Scotland, and Poland. They were unbeaten, winning four matches and drawing two, scoring 13 goals. They finished the group stage with 14 points, advancing to the quarter-finals.
There, they faced Denmark in a draw that proved challenging. Portugal fell 1-0 away from home in Copenhagen, in a game where Denmark was the clearly superior team, accumulating 23 shots (2.73xG) and scoring in the 78th minute.
The second leg was a different story. Portugal was far more creative and eventually dominant. They took the lead twice (38’,72’) but Denmark equalised both times. Trincao scored a third for Portugal near the end to send the game to extra time.
There, he scored again to give his team a commanding lead, before Goncalo Ramos added the cherry on top five minutes before the end.
