Augsburg - Dortmund betting tip

Augsburg - Dortmund Match Preview and Betting Tip

Augsburg hosts Dortmund in the 9th round of the Bundesliga, a match that takes place at the WWK Arena, Augsburg's home stadium.

What We Know

  • In the last 20 league meetings between the two sides, 17 have ended with both teams scoring.
  • Augsburg’s home record against Dortmund in the Bundesliga stands at 3–4–7, with nine of the last 11 clashes featuring BTTS.

Betting Tip: Augsburg - Dortmund

Beyond Dortmund’s clear superiority in every department:  quality, defence, and attack, Augsburg also has less rotation depth, which could matter after both sides’ midweek DFB Pokal fixtures. The visitors should have enough control and firepower to get the job done.

  • Prediction: Dortmund to win
  • Odds: 1.60 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 5

Augsburg

It was almost comical to hear coach Sandro Wagner say after the 0-6 home defeat to RB Leipzig, “We don’t have a defensive problem, we just fell asleep once or twice.” No comment from our side.

Augsburg’s display, especially in the first half, was disastrous. They went into the break trailing 0-4, and by the 65th minute, the final 0-6 scoreline was already set. Nothing worked defensively or offensively. The collapse was particularly surprising given how disciplined they had looked in the previous 1-1 draw away at Köln.

This inconsistency has defined their season so far. Some games show a compact, well-organised side; in others, like the 1-4 defeat to Mainz, they completely fall apart. With 20 goals conceded in just eight rounds, they currently have the worst defensive record in the league.

Last year, they were known for being solid without the ball. This year, in trying to play a more proactive and expansive style, they’ve gone to the opposite extreme.

Heading into another home match, the task is obvious: defend better. But can they? So far, they’ve conceded in all four home games: once against the struggling Wolfsburg, and at least three goals in every other.

Borussia Dortmund

It took until the 96th minute, but Beier’s late strike finally gave Dortmund a 1-0 win over Köln. Tactically, they were second-best in the first half, but the second period was a different story. Dortmund combined control with defensive security and piled on the pressure.

They created multiple chances before Beier’s composed finish in stoppage time sealed it. That victory ended a short two-game winless run (0-1-1) that included the 1-1 draw against Leipzig and the 1-2 loss at Bayern.

Generally, Niko Kovac’s side has handled the “winnable” Bundesliga fixtures well, often winning without conceding, though they’ve had the occasional defensive lapse away from home.

One small concern is the form of Guirassy. The prolific forward and top scorer has looked a bit leggy and out of rhythm recently, not getting into dangerous positions as often, and when he does, he lacks sharpness.

Kovac has rotated the squad heavily due to the congested schedule, but Guirassy hasn’t had a real rest, which might soon be necessary.

That said, Dortmund tend to enjoy playing on the road this season. They are more dynamic, more productive, and more clinical than at home.
