Sunderland - Everton betting tips

Sunderland - Everton Analysis and Betting Prediction

Sunderland and Everton play their 10th round match of the Premier League at the Stadium of Light, home of Sunderland.

What We Know

  • These two meet each other for the first time in eight years. The Toffees have won the last three in all competitions (8-0 goal differential).
  • Sunderland has won just two of their last 12 home games against Everton, losing seven.
  • Everton manager David Moyes worked for Sunderland during the 2016/2017 season, getting relegated from the Premier League. He fares much better against the Black Cats, winning 14 and losing just two of 22 games.

Betting Tip: Sunderland - Everton

Sunderland has maintained its impressive form to start the season. They show remarkable resilience and efficiency, especially at home, and they are easy for another impressive win, especially at a point in the season when Everton are a bit out of sorts and vulnerable. The odds also represent good value.

  • Prediction: Sunderland to win
  • Odds: 2.90 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 3

Sunderland

Sunderland achieved its most significant success since returning to the top flight, claiming a remarkable 2-1 victory away to Chelsea. The Black Cats had a poor start, conceding in the fourth minute and struggling under pressure.

Despite that, thanks to a set piece and a moment of chaos, they equalised in the 22nd minute through Isidor. Chelsea continued to dominate, but deep into stoppage time, Sunderland launched one final counterattack, finished brilliantly by Talbi to secure a remarkable triumph.

Regis Le Bris’s side is living the dream. Two successive wins after the international break have lifted them into the top four before this round. They have also equalled their best-ever Premier League start, a record set in the 1999-2000 season.

This result comes despite ranking among the league’s bottom three for total shots and shots on target. Their efficiency in front of goal has been extraordinary, and they remain unbeaten and impressively compact at home.

Everton

Everton’s unbeaten run at their new stadium came to an end with a heavy 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, a scoreline that flattered the visitors. The Toffees created the first big chance through Grealish, but fell behind to a set piece in the 19th minute. They thought they had equalised when O’Brien scored six minutes later, only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul.

More misfortune followed in first-half stoppage time, as another set play led to Tottenham’s second. Everton continued to fight, with Ndiaye and Beto both missing major opportunities before conceding again in the 89th minute.

Back-to-back defeats since the international break have left the Merseyside club in 13th place before this round. Concerns persist over their inability to convert attacks into goals. Everton has failed to score in either of those matches, despite creating plenty of chances.

Their away form has also been poor, largely due to this lack of sharpness. Meanwhile, their defensive discipline has been lacking, with Everton now ranked as the fourth-worst side in terms of shots allowed to opponents.
