Defending Serie A champions Inter didn’t do much business in the summer, with veteran English defender John Stones as their most high-profile signing, but they did lose the brilliant Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid for a big transfer fee.
They’re favourites to defend their title and started off their defence with a convincing 4-1 win over Monza last weekend, while their hosts in this one, Cagliari, went off and beat Parma 1-0 away in an excellent start to the season for them and they’ll be looking to improve on a respectable 14th place in last season’s Serie A.
But how Inter wish they could be playing Cagliari every week. Their record against them is superb, with nine wins in their last 10, the exception being a 2-2 draw in 2024.
And most of those wins have been pretty easy for them, including wins by 2-0 and 3-0 last season and 3-1 and 3-0 the season before. In fact, across their last 10 games, Inter scored two or more goals in nine of them.
Inter should really win this, and it’s unlikely to be 1-0, so a win for the reigning champions with at least two goals in it looks like the way to go.
