Betting Tip: Brentford - Manchester United

Brentford have proven time and time again that they are capable of the best and the worst, as their defensive line is problematic. Manchester United earned an important morale booster with last week’s derby win and is showing progress, but they also struggle defensively.

We like the odds of a high-scoring game here, with both teams creating several chances.

  • Prediction: Over 2.5 goals
  • Odds: 1.62 (at the time of writing)

Brentford

Brentford faced Fulham away, in a London derby that ended up disappointing for the Bees (3-1 loss). Keith Andrews saw his team start off the game ideally, as their intense pressure caused a lot of trouble to Fulham and helped them take the lead in the 20th minute of the game with Damsgaard.

It was all downhill from there. The home side turned things around in just a three-minute span, scoring in the 38th and the 40th minute of the game. Brentford’s hopes were completely squashed in the start of the second, when Pinnock scored an own goal. Any attempt at a reaction after that was hopeless.

With that loss, Brentford are now on a three-game skid without a win and barely out of the relegation zone. This time around, the 3-5-2 formation Andrews has gone with at times this season was not effective at all, defensively or offensively.

The former is the biggest issue with the Bees. They not only have conceded the most goals in the Premier League with 14, they have also been conceding 14 attempts per game, good for second-worst. At the same time, they are very low in certain offensive metrics as well.

Manchester United

A huge 2-1 home win over Chelsea for Manchester United. The Red Devils stormed off the gates and earned a big advantage in just the 5th minute of the game when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off for a clumsy last-ditch effort.

That advantage, alongside United’s dynamic play, did not take too long to translate into goals, first with Bruno Fernandes in the 14th minute and then with Casemiro in the 37th minute. The latter did, however, put his team into a lot of trouble, as he received an entirely unnecessary second yellow card in the first half stoppage time.

That allowed Chelsea to take advantage of the momentum shift in the second half. They scored in the 80th minute but were unable to create any other serious chances.

A collective sigh of relief must have been heard across the red side of Manchester with the final whistle, following the very unpleasant week that came after the disappointing loss to rivals City. The dynamism and perseverance shown by the team bode well for its future and that of Ruben Amorim.

The improvements on the attacking side of the ball have not paid off yet when it comes to scoring, but the Red Devils are at the top of the shot attempts standings and are clearly on a different level compared to previous years. Unfortunately, the defence is often as problematic as before, and they have failed to win any of their last 7 away games.
