Belgium - Wales Match Peview and Prediction

Belgium and Wales are playing their match in the European World Cup qualifiers campaign at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

What We Know

  • These two have faced each other 15 times. Belgium has won six, Wales has won four, and five matches have ended in draws.
  • All of their last five clashes since Wales defeated Belgium in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals have seen BTTS.

Betting Tip Belgium - Wales

Belgium has the talent to earn a necessary win against Wales, which will restore order around the team and bring them closer to first place. Still, the Welsh are not expected to fold, and they will seek to defend in numbers. Our pick is Belgium to win combined Under 4.5 Goals.

  • Betting tip: Belgium to win & Under 4.5 Goals
  • Odds: 1.70 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 3

Belgium

Belgium was able to control the game for the majority of the away clash against North Macedonia, and held the lead from the 28th minute and De Cuyper’s goal. The final result was not, however, the one they would’ve liked.

Alioski equalised for the home team just before the end of the 90th minute. That came after several missed opportunities by Belgium to double their lead until the 70th minute. From that point onwards, the team retreated back into their own half, affording North Macedonia the opportunity to threaten.

This was a disappointing first result in the group stage, coming away with just one point from a winnable game. At the same time, Wales were able to grow their lead to six points, with two extra games played.

The Belgians are aware that every game from now on will be a must-win, with no margin for error. Manager Rudi Garcia has struggled to win the fans’ trust since his appointment this year, and his team needs to find a way forward to secure qualification.

Wales

Wales was fortunate to have a morale-boosting game right before the trip to Brussels. They hosted Liechtenstein, the weakest team in Group J, and they came away from the game with a comfortable 3-0 win.

This was yet another game showing that, no matter how weak the opposition is, Wales are only going to score about 3-4 goals at most. Despite tallying 26 shots, 11 of which on target, they only converted three. The first two of their goals came with headers by Rodon and Wilson. Moore added a third, a bit over 20’ before the end, and that was it for the game.

While a win is a win, the Welsh know that in a group stage where the goal differential might be decisive, they could’ve benefited materially from at least 1-2 more goals. They had already defeated Kazakhstan 3-1, though that was followed by a disappointing away draw in Skopje against North Macedonia (1-1).

If they manage to avoid defeat in Belgium, they will be winning the upper hand for the top spot in their group. Even though they’ve never managed to win away at Belgium, they have escaped with a point three times in their seven total trips, and they will seek to do so once again.
