Atletico Madrid
Atletico will finish in third place for the 6th time in 13 years, again without silverware. This week, they were defeated by Osasuna (2-0) in a game that was never close. They conceded once in each half and only managed to create chances through in-form forward Sorloth.
This was their first away loss after three without one, it was their 5th of the campaign.
It’s a different story at home, where they have only one defeat and that came against champions Barcelona. Three straight wins at Metropolitano, all with more than three goals scored.
They are expected to be active in the transfer market, aiming to replace players like Azpilicueta and Angel Correa, who will be leaving at the end of the season. Particular emphasis is placed on the domestic market.
This will be their final game of the season in front of their home fans. In-form Sorloth will start again after scoring four goals in a game last week. He has 17 in the campaign, his first with the Rojiblancos. Next week, they will face Girona away.
Real Betis
Betis are experiencing a very good season, still having a (very slim) chance at Champions League qualification, while making it to the Conference League final. Their Champions League hopes took a blow following the 2-2 draw at Rayo.
Betis fell behind by two goals in the first half before roaring back in the second. Cucho Hernandez scored a beautiful solo goal before Isco equalised in the 61st minute. That was still not a good result as it left them five points away from fifth-place Villarreal.
Still, this season will be the first one with a European final for Betis. They’ve also been consistent in the league, scoring regularly. Nineteen of their 36 matches ended with over 2.5 goals, while 24 saw BTTS. They are five games unbeaten at home, despite conceding in all five.
Manuel Pellegrini has accumulated over 250 games as Betis manager, and this year he’s seen significant reinforcements. Brazilian loanee Antony has been crucial. He has scored eight times and assisted five as a Betis man, and every Betis fan wants to see him stay.
Next week, they will face Valencia in their last game before the Conference League final against Chelsea.
