Arsenal made key signings, with midfielder Brino Guimarães, highly rated winger Christos Tzolis, and experienced defender Ezri Konsa all joining over the summer to give the Premier League champions more squad depth.
So far, those three have been used sparingly, but the team that was so impressive last season have got off to the perfect start to the campaign with impressive 3-0 wins over Manchester City in the Community Shield and Coventry in the Premier League before a hard-fought win over Aston Villa on Monday night, winning 1-0.
As for Chelsea, they also have two league victories on the board after a 3-2 win over Fulham and a 4-3 win against Brighton to prove that they’re much improved since last season, though they’ll have to make do without Enzo Fernandez from now on, who joined Manchester City on transfer deadline day.
On the one hand, Arsenal have won all their games this season without conceding; on the other hand, Chelsea have scored five goals in two league games and won both of them, so something has got to give.
Arsenal have had the better of it in this fixture recently, as you’d expect from a side who has been far more consistent than Chelsea over the last few years, winning 2-1, 1-0, 5-0 and 3-1 in the last four at home in the Premier League against their London rivals.

As we know, Arsenal spent plenty of money in the summer transfer window, but so did Chelsea.
Chelsea spent around £349 million on new signings during the 2026 summer transfer window, according to Transfermarkt figures compiled by Sports Illustrated and reported by Reuters. That made Chelsea the second-highest spenders in the Premier League, behind Manchester City (£458m).
The biggest deal was Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117m, while other significant additions included Maxence Lacroix (£52m), though they also sold Fernandez for £125m to help balance the books.
Fun Fact: Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 matches against Chelsea, including nine league games and two in the League Cup, winning eight and drawing three, Chelsea’s last win being back in 2021 when they beat the Gunners 2-0 at the Emirates.
