Valladolid

Valladolid took yet another early lead, but still managed to lose. This time, they fell 2-1 to Mallorca, the 9th straight defeat for the already-relegated Villarreal. The team has somewhat more relaxed, considering they were already relegated, and they took the lead in the 10th minute. Following a turnover in the midfield area, Moro made a run and found Chuki at just the right moment for the finish. The latter had threatened Mallorca just 3 minutes prior to the goal.

The team continued to be dangerous in transition, and goalkeeper Grief was able to prevent a second goal in the 18th minute. Valladolid were not particularly threatened, but a single defensive lapse was enough for Mallorca to equalise in the 28th minute. The comeback was completed 4 minutes into the second half, and it was the second game in a row Valladolid conceded early in the second half, and the second game in a row they conceded a suffered a comeback. Valladolid came up with an equaliser 5 minutes later, but it was disallowed as offside.

Manager Alvaro Rubio emphasised that his players need to enjoy the remainder of their games, while at the same time going for the win. He noted that fan support is much needed now, especially after being relegated. It was the second straight game with BTTS & Over 2.5 goals for the team, and the 24th game with Over 2.5 Goals. Next week, they will host Alaves in their final home game of the season.

Girona

Their clash vs Villarreal was an underwhelming affair, but ultimately, Girona found themselves on the losing side. They conceded in the 39th minute to a Villarreal player who usually features on the reserve team. This was a setback for Girona, following an important win last week. Never threatened, and zero of their 7 attempts were on target.

Manager Michel’s hospitalisation a day before the game might have played a part in this performance. The players expressed their disappointment at not coming away with a win, as they wanted to dedicate it to their manager. Despite all that, survival was secured last week, in their only win in 12 games.

They have not won a single game out of their last 7 away clashes. It was their third consecutive goal ending with fewer than 3 goals, for a total of 16 in their 35 games. Next week, they will travel to San Sebastian to take on Real Sociedad in their last home game of the year.
