Betting Tip: Roma - Milan

Roma’s chances for a ticket leading to Champions League football took a significant blow, but they will give it their best for 5th place and Europa League football next season. Things can change if they win against Milan and Torino, and Juventus and Lazio make a misstep.

We are backing them against Milan, as the latter have recently been preoccupied more with their Coppa Italia final against Bologna.

  • Betting Tip: Roma to win
  • Odds: 2.30 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 5

Roma

Roma’s incredible 19-game unbeaten streak is now over, following their 2-1 defeat to Atalanta at Bergamo. After the game, Claudio Ranieri was irate at the referee, owing to the latter’s decision to rescind a Roma penalty with the score tied, following consultation with the VAR.

Roma fell behind early (in the 9th minute) but managed to equalise with Cristante around the half-hour mark. They ended up conceding the decider in the 76th minute.

The Romans are now 6th and they are no longer masters of their own destiny when it comes to Champions League football. They are one point below both Juventus and Lazio, who are tied for fourth.

Still, if Roma wins, they will very likely finish the season in at least 5th place, leading to the Europa League, considering Lazio are unlikely to win away against Inter.

Of course, Roma’s stunning turnaround is owed to one man, more than anything else. Claudio Ranieri’s appointment changed everything for the Romans and transformed their psyche.

Milan

The season is ending in severely disappointing fashion. On Wednesday, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the Olimpico in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna. They conceded in the 53rd minute and missed a chance to qualify for the Europa League.

They did manage to defeat Bologna in the league last week in Milan (3-1), even though they fell behind in the 49th minute. Gimenez equalised (73’) and added the cherry on top in stoppage time after Pulisic gave his team the lead in between (79’).

Milan is in 8th place, currently not leading to European football in the next season’s campaign. This makes the clash against Roma at the Olimpico a must-win in their efforts to maintain hope until the very end of the season.

This will be their only shot, and if they get a win now, they’ll have a good chance at doing so next week as well, against relegated Monza.
