PSG

This might finally be PSG’s season. They crushed everyone domestically, winning the league comfortably and adding the Coupe de France just a few days ago. Easy win over Reims (3-0) thanks to a brilliant performance by Bradley Barcola (2 goals, 1 assist) and Doue.

To be honest, this game was not particularly challenging, as has been the case all year (and most years) domestically. This season, however, PSG have been excellent against almost any opponent. It might be their time for the next step in the top European competition, five years after their first try.

In 2020, COVID-19 forced the competition to a one-time Final 8, and PSG fell to Bayern Munich in the final. This time, PSG looks different. They are more than the sum of their parts, and thanks to their manager, they appear to be a cohesive team.

Ousmane Dembele is having a career season, and most of his co-stars have been phenomenal on the way to Munich.

They ravaged through the knockout phases, dispatching Brest, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal, despite almost falling out of the top 24 in the League Phase. Ever since they’ve hit the groove, they are unbeatable. Terrific on the counter, rugged and explosive in midfield, while Donnarumma holds down the fort at the back.

Inter

Just a few weeks ago, Inter were primed for the treble. However, the titanic effort to reach the Champions League final may have contributed towards the team running out of steam.

Being knocked out by rivals Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals was disappointing, as were two recent Serie A defeats that effectively handed the scudetto to Napoli, alongside a 2-2 draw against Lazio.

Despite Inter claiming a win in the last round, Napoli won their own clash and secured the league title.

Everyone at Inter was obviously disappointed with these two failures, but there is a need for that to be a thing of the past. That is, of course, because a Champions League win would go a long way towards erasing any and all problems.

Everyone is zeroing in on this game, especially since it’s coming just two years after their latest Champions League final appearance, a tough 1-0 defeat to Manchester City and a game that was frustratingly close.

To reach this point, Inter has been consistently excellent, making it to the top 8 of the League Phase before dispatching Feyenoord, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona. They eliminated the Spanish champion after a thrilling second-leg overtime victory.
