Betting Tip Leverkusen - Dortmund

Two of the Bundesliga’s best three offences are facing each other. The motive, when it comes to fighting for the best placement in the standings, is lopsided, as Leverkusen are certainly second and Dortmund try to get to fourth spot. Borussia are in the best momentum possible, and they score with ease. So, I will bet on who wants it more. Our pick is Dortmund to score over 1.5 goals.

Leverkusen

Leverkusen didn’t perform well in Freiburg last week but managed to get a 2-2 draw and a point. The stats present the full image, as they didn’t record a single shot until the 68th minute. They conceded the first goal in the 44th minute and a second one right after the start of the second half (48’). Still, last season’s Champions reacted in the dying minutes of the match with Wirtz (82’) and Tah (93’).

This result meant that Bayern mathematically clinched the title, and Leverkusen will have to settle for second spot. Xabi Alonso’s men have three draws in their last four matches and a total of eleven (!) during the whole Bundesliga campaign, results that meant they couldn’t fight for the title until the end.

The truth is that they didn’t deserve anything more than 2nd place. They have scored 68 goals, 25 fewer than Bayern. With the season moving towards its end, talks regarding Alonso’s successor have been heating up, as the Basque manager is about to sign for Real Madrid.

His, as it seems, last match as the Leverkusen manager will be next week’s season finale, away at Mainz.

Dortmund

Dortmund are possibly the hottest team in the Bundesliga right now, as they proved in last week’s match against Wolfsburg, whom they beat 4-0. Dominant from start to finish, they left next to no space to react to Wolfsburg. Guirassy scored his team’s first goal at 3 minutes, and he scored again in the 59th. He wasn’t the only one with a brace, as Adeyemi also scored two (69’, 73’).

This was Borussia’s third successive victory and their fifth in their six latest matches. They have significantly improved ever since Niko Kovac was appointed manager, and now they are righteously dreaming of Champions League football next season. They have gained all the lost ground and are fifth in the standings, at 51 points, one less than fourth-placed Freiburg.

On top of that, they appear to be highly creative during the latest part of the season. They create chances and capitalise on them. In their last five Bundesliga matches, they have never scored under two goals, for a total of 16. Thus, they now have the third-best scoring tally in the season, with only Bayern and Leverkusen having scored more.

Away from home, however, they only have five wins in 16 matches (even though lately they are more cynical and have learned how to secure the most points possible). Next week, they wrap up the season by hosting Holstein Kiel.
