Girona
Girona suffered a 3-2 away defeat to Real Sociedad, in a game that was characterised by fast-paced football. No particular motivation for either side, and that freed up the players. Girona conceded early to Marin, but Stuani equalised shortly thereafter, for his fifth goal in six games.
Girona missed several chances, but it was Sociedad that once again took the lead. Girona managed to even things up again, but the Basque side ultimately got a stoppage-time winner.
A harmless defeat for Girona, in the first game in their last five that saw over 2.5 goals. Manager Michel emphasised that his team did not deserve to lose, while discussing how challenging this season was with the Champions League obligations for his team.
Still, he was pleased with his team’s approach and play style. There have been 20 games with BTTS, and 20 games with Over 2.5 Goals for Girona this season.
Atletico Madrid
Impressive performance and dominant win (4-1) against Betis on Sunday, in what was the last home game of the season. Julian Alvarez converted a stunning free kick early on, and Le Normand doubled his team’s lead with his first goal of the season.
Betis did pull one back in the second half, but the Rojiblancos came roaring back with another Alvarez goal a few minutes later. It was his 17th in his first season with Atletico, a very solid output. Angel Correa added the cherry on top in stoppage time, ending his Atletico tenure on a high note.
Manager Cholo Simeone took stock of the season in his press conference, noting that his team improved significantly as the campaign went by. He acknowledged that Atletico’s global presence has grown, and he expressed his confidence that there will be transfer reinforcements, while praising newcomers Alvarez and Sorloth for their performances this season.
It was the second straight home game with four goals scored, though only 16 of Atletico’s 37 have ended with Over 2.5 Goals. They have been poor away from home, failing to score in their last three and accumulating just two wins in their last nine.
