Dortmund - Mönchengladbach Match Preview and Betting Tips

Match for Gameday 30 of the German Bundesliga, played at Signal Iduna Park, home of Borussia Dortmund.

What We Know

  • In their last Bundesliga meeting, on December 7, the two Borussias drew 1-1 in Dortmund.
  • Dortmund have won their last ten games when hosting Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
  • The last time Gladbach won in the Signal Iduna Park was in March of 2014 (1-2).
  • Over 5.5 goals were scored in their last three H2H meetings in Dortmund.
  • All five of Dortmund's latest matches, in all competitions, had a minimum of four goals.

Borussia Dortmund

On Tuesday night, Dortmund attempted to pull off one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history against Barcelona, but ultimately fell short, despite a 3-1 win. They were impressive, however, for most of the game, especially in the first half.

They finished the match with 18 attempts worth 3.81xGoals probability in statistics and created six great chances.

Leading the way was Guinea forward Serhou Guirassy, who scored a hat-trick (11' pen, 49', 76'). In between (54'), Barcelona had reduced the deficit with Bensebaini. The Blaugrana had a four-goal lead from the first leg and maintained it, advancing to the semi-finals.

Niko Kovac's side completed a three-game unbeaten run (2-1-0) in the league, following a 2-2 draw against Bayern away. Dortmund took the lead in the 48th minute, but the home side turned the game around in the 65th and 69th minute. However, the visitors equalised through Anton.

The end of the matchday found them firmly in the eighth place in the standings, a solid three points clear of sixth-placed Freiburg. With six points away from fourth-placed Leipzig, they keep their hopes alive and aim to fight to the end for a ticket to the next season’s Champions League.

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Gladbach weren’t particularly good last week, losing 1-2 at home against Freiburg. In fact, they produced one of their least creative performances, especially when playing at Borussia Park. According to the match stats, they finished the 90 minutes with 10 shots, 0.71xGoals probability, and no big chances.

Gladbach's goal came from an own goal in the 14th minute, and Freiburg equalised two minutes later. In the second half, they conceded possession to the visitors, lost yardage on the pitch and were under a lot of pressure. They held on to the draw until the 90th minute, but after a lapse in defensive action at that point, they conceded a second goal.

This ended a three-match unbeaten run (2-1-0) that Gerardo Seoane's side had been running. However, their defensive play has not been up to standard lately, as Borussia have conceded eight goals in their last five matches.

Freiburg overtook Gladbach in the standings, leaving them 7th with 44 points. With five matches left to complete the season and 4th-place Leipzig sitting four points ahead, everything remains open regarding their European ticket contention.

Away from home, Gladbach have a record of 6-3-5, the 7th best record in the Bundesliga, scoring 1.5 goals per 90 minutes.

Dortmund have been in very good shape lately, performing exceptionally well, especially at home. They are rightly thought of as favourites to win, but the odds are not satisfying.

BTTS and over 2.5 goals is our pick for this bet, which is also boosted by the H2H history between the two.
