Betting Tip: Chile - Argentina

Chile is fighting for its life here, facing one of the best teams in the world (and World Champions). It's a very tough job to do, but they might be able to at least score a goal. Hard to see them keeping a clean sheet, however, making BTTS our pick.

Chile

The next two games against Argentina and Bolivia will determine whether Chile has a chance to secure a 2026 World Cup spot. It won’t be a direct qualification, but rather a spot in the play-offs.

Realistically, however, the odds for such a development are rather low. Disappointing group-stage performances have left Chile in last place. They have just ten points, five behind seventh-place Venezuela, having won just twice and drawn four matches.

It’s not surprising their tally is that low, considering they have the second-lowest offensive output behind Peru, scoring just nine times. Not much better defensively, conceding 21 times in 14 games, leading them to the second-worst goal differential of the group stage.

As for the game against Argentina, it’s not quite complicated. A clean sheet is the first step, and they’ll need a small miracle to accomplish that while scoring one of their own.

Argentina

It was only a matter of time before Argentina clinched their spot in the 2026 World Cup, and they managed to do so. Argentina are by far the best and most talented team in the group, and they’ve consistently shown that throughout the games, including the last-round home game against Brazil.

They crushed their rivals (4-1), and morale is sky-high for Lionel Scaloni’s players. All four of their remaining games are now of no real consequence.

They represent an important opportunity for Argentina to try out different approaches and tactics, introducing players that have not played much in the past (such as Franco Mastantuono), players that can help the team move into the post-Messi era (despite his return to the squad).

Still, their play style won’t change. They will enter this game trying to score, since that’s what they know how to do best. Their 26 goals in 14 games (and only eight conceded) prove that, as they’re scoring just under two a game.
