Chelsea

Chelsea made a decisive first step toward the San Mames final with a 4-1 away win in Sweden. The engine behind this result was Enzo Fernandez, who assisted both of his team’s goals in the first half. He connected with Sancho in the 13th minute for the first one, and he delivered an assist to Madueke for the second (43’).

The Swedes did miss a few chances, but Chelsea goalkeeper Jorgensen (their Conference League starter) was able to turn everything away.

Chelsea managed two more goals in the second half, both coming from Nicolas Jackson (59’, 69’), who scored his first two goals in the competition. The home side was held to a consolation goal. It was Chelsea’s fifth game with at least four goals in this season’s competition.

Enzo Maresca was satisfied with the result, though he did preach concentration and discipline in the second leg. He is expected to rotate some of his squad, however, as Chelsea are in the midst of a difficult top-5 race in England.

Last weekend, they managed to defeat league champions Liverpool and are currently sitting 5th with 63 points, primed to participate in next season’s Champions League.

Djurgården

The crushing 1-4 defeat does not leave much room for optimism, and, apart from a somewhat positive attacking effort, Djurgården have little to take away from the first leg. Down 0-2 at the half, and down 0-4 at the 65th minute. Youngster Isak Alemayehu Mulugeta scored his first goal in the competition to soften the defeat a tiny bit.

Djurgården are the first Swedish team to reach the semifinals of a European competition since 1987, and IFK Göteborg, and that in itself is a major accomplishment. Manager Jani Honkavaara said he was proud of his players’ effort and performance, acknowledging Chelsea’s quality and history.

Half of their six away games have seen BTTS, while their last two have seen over 3.5 goals. In the domestic league, they drew against first-place AIK (1-1), earning a point that brought them to 10th place, with just eight points after six rounds.
