Atalanta - Roma Match Preview and Betting Tips

Playing their match of the 36th round of the Serie A, it’s Atalanta and Roma, at Gewiss Stadium (Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia), home of Atalanta.

Facts:

  • Eleven of Atalanta’s last 12 have seen BTTS: NO, and six of their last seven matches ended with Under 2.5 Goals.
  • Roma are on a 19-game unbeaten streak, with 14 wins and five draws. Eight straight matches with less than three goals scored, and three consecutive games with under 1.5 Goals.
  • Their last six duels in Bergamo saw the combo of BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals come through,
  • Atalanta won four of their last five in Bergamo, with one win for Roma.

Betting Tip: Atalanta - Roma

Atalanta has struggled this year at home, while Roma is on an exceptional 19-game unbeaten streak and is a force to be reckoned with. We would expect a more balanced set of odds.

That’s why we are turning towards the away side on this one, expecting them to avoid defeat in Bergamo. We will go against the tradition of high-scoring affairs between them, aiming for under 3.5 goals.

  • Betting Tip: Roma to win or draw + Under 3.5 Goals
  • Odds: 2.50 (at the time of writing)
  • Stake: 5

Atalanta

Atalanta was not particularly challenged by last-place Monza in the local Lombard derby in the previous round. They scored twice in the first 23 minutes, and that made everything easier. Two more goals by Lookman (47’) and Brescianini (88’) made this a 4-0 triumph.

Atalanta remains 3rd, growing the lead over Juventus and Bologna, while maintaining it over Roma and Lazio. They are now five points above the 5th place, the spot that does not lead to next season’s Champions League.

Impressively for the Bergamaschi, they have now reached 12 away wins in 18 games, an excellent record that trumps that of both Napoli and Inter. That, of course, is a bittersweet accomplishment, serving as a reminder that, had they been able to take care of business at home, they would have had a shot at the Scudetto.

On the positive side, their remaining schedule is rather manageable - apart from this challenge vs Roma, they will host lowly Parma and travel to Genoa for a clash with the local team.

Roma

Roma was able to claim a 1-0 home win against Fiorentina at the Olimpico, primarily thanks to Serbian goalkeeper Svilar and the handful of his very important saves. The only goal of this contest was scored by Dovbyk, right at the end of the first half.

The team is currently 19 games unbeaten, winning 14 games and drawing five times. They are currently tied at 4th place (leading to the Champions League) alongside Juventus and Roman rivals Lazio - all three have leapfrogged Bologna.

Of course, everything changed in Roma’s season with the appointment of Claudio Ranieri. The veteran manager managed to transform his team both mentally and on the pitch. The streak will be hard to maintain, however. Tough games ahead with visits to Bergamo (Atalanta) and Torino (Torino), while hosting Milan.
