One look at this game and I knew it cannot be from Microgaming. Why? Because after having played and reviewed most of Microgaming games, the game's presentation and appearance can only come from 2 other game providers linked with Microgaming, namely Mahi Gaming or Rabcat. Mahi Gaming does very nice games, so I knew it must have come from Rabcat. Personally, I cannot appreciate at all any of Rabcat's games, not for its low quality graphics, which are actually quite good, but for the ridiculously low payouts from their games. Penguin Splash pays the worst, followed by River of Riches. This Scary Friends game is the third Rabcat's game I've played so far. Why Microgaming would accept such poor paying games, I really cannot figure out. Maybe it's good for Microgaming's revenue? Hmm, whatever.

The theme of the game is based on scary monsters, or so the game title says, but the monsters look like they came from the TV series Sesame Street. They aren't scary looking at all, but are pretty cute monsters instead! A title like Cute Friends or Monster Friends would have been more appropriate. The Host Monster is the Wild symbol, 5 of which pays a very nice 800x the total bet amount, and substitutes for other symbols except for the Scatter and Bonus symbols. Yep, it's a totally dumb Wild symbol, for not doing anything else. Both the Free Spins symbol and the Bonus symbol are dumb symbols too. They don't pay for themselves, but getting 3 or more of each symbol triggers 5 - 14 free spins without any multiplier or triggers the Bonus game. The Purple Monster pays 800x the total bet for 5 of them, the same as for the Wild symbol, but the other Monsters and the other symbols pay from 40x to 0.4x the total bet amount, all for 5 of each kind. The paytable could actually be a good one, but the non-paying Scatter and Bonus symbols, plus the very low free spins award, make it an average paytable instead.

In the Bonus game, pick 1 of the 4 Monsters as your choice, watch them get spinned around at 100 revolutions per minute, and watch when your Monster gets thrown out of the seat. Winning 1st place pays from 50x to 500x the total bet, 2nd Placing wins 10x to 50x, and 3rd Placing wins 5x to 20x, depending on the number of triggering Bonus symbols. This may look good, but what I've gotten so far were mostly 3rd Placings (5x total bet prize) and twice 2nd Placings (10x total bet prize). Very disappointing!

If the Bonus games were bad enough, wait till you play the Free Spins games! The awards were mostly of 5 free spins, all without any multipliers, but with possible retriggering of the Free Spins game, which didn't do me much good at all. Out of the 10 Free Spins games that I've got, only 1 game paid 19x my bet amount! All the others paid blardy lowly from 2x to 9x. Sheesh! Typical of the Rabcat games that I've played so far, and probably one of the worst games too!

I played Scary Friends a long time ago and I played it only once. I think the reason was because I did not get any big win to play it more often. The game offer free spins and bonus game. While I was playing this game I had four scatter symbols and I think I received 7 free spins. This is not good, at other games you can receive many more free games than just 7. From them I won only a couple of euros.

The bonus game is interesting, because of all animations. I had bonus twice during free spins feature. First time I selected the green monster and I ended into third place. I won some money and in next spin I triggered the second bonus game. That time I choose different monster than first time, but the results were the same. Third place and only a few euros. I don't think this bonus is good at payouts. It could be much more interesting if you can win big money on it.

After all this game has a nice design and I like graphics. I also think that this is a quite better than some other games from this software provider. But I don't think I will play it in near future because I don't like payouts here. During base game I lost my money very quickly without any big win. I was surprised how fast it took from me 20 €. I will rate this game with 6 stars just because graphics.

Every little detail is worked out very well and the interface of the game is reminded me a little bit for an exclusive and very modern appearance and for me the reel area looks like if it was a screen of a smart phone. Anyway, the symbols we can play here are funny and cute little creatures and the applied little humorous animations just increase the attractive factor – my favorite is Yeti and the little monsters out of the reel area and their really cool and funny moves and gestures. Overall, this game seems to me a very modern product and it always a good sign because it gives me chance to think that other segment of the slot has such qualities what I can satisfy with.

At the end, I liked and enjoyed my first impression with this software developer and there were many things that I could appreciate, loved and respected at Scary Friends. Of course this limited experience is far from being enough to get a comprehensive and full opinion about this developer but surely was enough for me to be curious to try out their other products especially if I consider that Scary Friends slot is not from my favorite gambling type and style so I became very wrought-up if I think about what the visual and game solutions can be for a very different themed slot.
