PKR World Cup - Represent your country and win big!

Recommended Posts

Get involved with the real World Cup!

Show your pride and passion and represent your country in the PKR World Cup. We’re looking for six players from each nation to step up to the plate to scoop bragging rights, cash and cool prizes in the biggest event of 2010!

Prizes

Each player from the team crowned World Cup champions will receive $750 and a signed legends World Cup shirt from Icons.com

Freeroll

If you don’t get selected to play for your country all is not lost. We will be rolling out a $1,500 minimum GTD freeroll for all players from the winning nation who played at least one qualifier. The prizepool is made up from half of all qualifier tournament fees and takes place on 17 July at 18:30 GMT.

How do I play for my country?

There are three cool ways you can grab a spot to play for your country...

Route One

From the 22 May – 26 June we will be running a series of $5 buy in $3,000 GTD tournaments where you can earn points from each event you play. The top four point’s scorers from each country in these events will be the first four names on their country’s team sheets.

Date Time (GMT) Tournament

22 May 18:30 WC Qualifier 1

29 May 18:30 WC Qualifier 2

5 June 18:30 WC Qualifier 3

12 June 18:30 WC Qualifier 4

19 June 18:30 WC Qualifier 5

26 June 18:30 WC Qualifier 6

Points system

Points will be allocated based in reverse order of the amount of people who play each tournament. For example the first place finisher in a 520-man tournament would receive 520 points and last place would receive one point. On top of this players will also earn one additional point for every dollar in prize money they win from the tournament.

Route Two

The second way in is through Sit & Go’s. From each qualifying nation we will also be selecting the player who has earned the highest amount of prize money in six and ten-seat Sit & Go’s in the 22 May – 26 June period. Only players to have entered at least one World Cup qualifier tournament will be eligible for this place.

Route Three

The final way to bag a place in your country’s team is through Heads up Sit & Go’s. From each qualifying nation we will also be selecting the player who has earned the highest amount of prize money in Heads up Sit & Go’s in the 22 May – 26 June period. Only players to have entered at least one World Cup qualifier tournament will be eligible for this place.

The teams

12 teams will qualify for the finals. Team scores will be determined by the total score of the four players to have earned the most points (these four will also be guaranteed a place in the team should that team qualify).

At the end of the qualification series, the 11 countries with the best score will qualify for the Finals, plus one team consisting of players from all other countries (named “Rest of the World”).

World Cup finals

Once each of the top 12 countries has a team of six the World Cup will begin.

Round One

The 12 qualifying teams will be drawn randomly into two groups of six.

Each team member will then play two six-seat tournaments with points allocated on their finishing position. At the end of the round the two team from each group based on their points score will progress to play each other in the PKR World Cup final.

Tournaments will be played at 18:30 and 21:00 GMT on 3 July. The structure will be 5,000 starting chips and 15 minute blind levels.

Points

Points from each Round one Sit & Go tournament will be allocated in the following format.

Position Points

First 12

Second 8

Third 5

Fourth 3

Fifth 2

Sixth 1

World Cup final

With just two teams left, each team member will play three heads up matches in a series of randomly drawn games. The team with the most wins from this format at the end of all matches will be crowned the PKR World Cup champions.

All Heads up matches will be played at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30 GMT on 10 July. The structure will be 5,000 starting chips and 8 minute blind levels.
