AskGamblers Certificate of Trust seal

AskGamblers Certificate of Trust

A casino cannot buy this badge. It has to pass a nine-standard audit, prove it pays players inside 24 hours, hold a resolution rate above 85% on our public complaint service — and then pass the whole audit again every 90 days.

Definition

What the Certificate of Trust is

The AskGamblers Certificate of Trust is our highest mark of approval for an online casino. It says that we have audited the operator against nine published standards — payout speed, complaint record, licensing, responsible-gambling tooling, AML transparency, security and fairness — and that it passed every one of them.

It is not a licence and it is not a review score. A licence means a regulator has permitted a casino to operate. A CasinoRank score tells you how good a casino is across dozens of measures. The Certificate of Trust is narrower and harder: it is a pass/fail verdict on whether we believe the casino will treat you fairly, pay you quickly, and put things right when they go wrong — backed by our own complaint service, which is where we find out.

Fewer than 1 in 10 casinos that apply are approved. Forty-three hold the certificate today, out of the hundreds of casinos we review.

What it is
  • An audit against 9 published standards, re-run every 90 days
  • A pass/fail verdict — one unmet standard is enough to decline
  • Backed by AGCCS, our public complaint service, so we see how the casino behaves when a player disputes something
  • Restricted to casinos already listed with us for at least six months
What it is not
  • Not for sale. No amount of advertising spend earns, keeps or restores it
  • Not permanent. Casinos lose it — and are then barred from reapplying for two years
  • Not a gambling licence. A regulator's authorisation is a separate, mandatory requirement we check on top
  • Not a guarantee you will win, and not a recommendation to gamble

Independence. AskGamblers does not sell the Certificate of Trust. No commercial relationship, advertising spend or affiliate arrangement can earn, keep or restore it. We do earn commission on some links elsewhere on this site — that revenue is separated from certification decisions by policy, and the certification committee has no visibility of commercial terms.

Badge misuse is the single biggest threat to what this certificate is worth. Three checks will tell you whether the one you are looking at is genuine.

AskGamblers Certificate of Trust badge
1

Click it

A genuine Certificate of Trust badge always links to that casino's review page on AskGamblers.com. If it links anywhere else — or nowhere at all — it is not genuine.

2

Look for it on our side

Open the casino's AskGamblers review page. A certified casino carries the badge on its review page here too, with a last-audited date. If the badge only exists on the casino's own site, it is fake.

3

Cross-check the list

Every certified casino appears in our certified casinos directory. If it isn't on that list it isn't certified — including if it held the certificate in the past.

Certified casinos are also required to run a Complaints page linking to the AskGamblers Complaint Service. A casino displaying our badge with no route to file a complaint with us is a red flag worth reporting.

Methodology

How certification actually works

Certification takes four to eight weeks and never starts from an application alone. By the time a casino applies, we already hold at least six months of data on it.

  1. Eligibility screen

We check the two hard gates before anything else: at least six months listed on AskGamblers, and a CasinoRank of 8.00 or higher. Most applications end here.

    • Listing age ≥ 6 months
    • CasinoRank ≥ 8.00
  2. Complaint record review

Our complaint team reads the operator's full AGCCS history — not just the score. How fast it responded, whether it engaged with evidence, whether the same failure recurs. The excellence formula below is the floor, not the whole test.

    • Resolution rate
    • Response times
    • Repeat-failure patterns
  3. Documentation audit

Licence status verified with the issuing regulator. AML and funding policies read in full. Terms and conditions read in full, looking for unfair clauses, dormancy traps and withdrawal caps. Responsible-gambling tooling checked feature by feature — self-exclusion, cooling-off, deposit, wager and loss limits — both self-serve and via support.

    • Regulator register check
    • AML policy
    • Full T&C read
    • RG tooling inventory
  4. Hands-on testing

We use the casino the way a player would. We register, complete KYC, deposit, place real bets and cash out to an e-wallet — including over a weekend — timing every step against the 0–24h standard. We contact live chat cold, off-peak, and measure the response. We check SSL, game-provider licensing and access to full gaming and transaction history.

    • Real-money withdrawal test
    • Weekend payout test
    • Cold live-chat test
    • KYC walkthrough
    • SSL & provider check
  5. Committee decision, then continuous monitoring

Findings go to the certification committee, which decides by consensus; a single unresolved standard is enough to decline. After approval the casino is re-audited in full at least every 90 days, and every new AGCCS complaint against it is monitored in between.

    • Consensus decision
    • 90-day full re-audit
    • Continuous complaint watch

The standards

The nine certification standards

Every standard is mandatory. Each one below shows the threshold we measure against, why it matters to you as a player, and how we verify it.

1 Minimum CasinoRank of 8.00 Threshold: ≥ 8.00

A CasinoRank of 8.00 or higher confirms that a casino is a suitable candidate for the AskGamblers Certificate of Trust.

Why it matters to you

CasinoRank aggregates dozens of measured factors — payout and KYC speed, payment choice, support quality, game providers, licensing, site usability — and 25% of it is the casino's complaint record. An 8.00 floor screens out casinos that are merely adequate.

How we verify it

Calculated automatically and continuously from our own data. See how CasinoRank works →

2 Excellent AskGamblers Complaint Service record Threshold: ≥ 85% resolved

There is no better proof of an operator's quality of service than its ability to resolve players' issues. The AskGamblers Complaint Service (AGCCS) is how we measure it. The "excellence formula" works as follows:

  1. If a casino has 6 published complaints or fewer, it cannot afford more than 1 unresolved complaint. (5 of 6 = 83.33%, which is acceptable.)
  2. If a casino has more than 6 published complaints, it needs at least an 85% resolution rate, regardless of the total number of complaints.

Why it matters to you

Every casino looks good until a payment goes wrong. This is the only standard that measures what happens after that — on public, published cases you can read yourself.

How we verify it

Directly from our own complaint database, updated as each case closes. Read complaint histories →

3 Fast payouts Threshold: 0–24h, weekends included

A casino payment has two phases: the pending period, before a player is verified, and the actual withdrawal timeframe. Neither should last more than 24 hours. A certified casino must meet all three criteria:

  1. Pending period must fit within 0–24h.
  2. E-wallet withdrawal timeframe must fit within 0–24h.
  3. The operator must process withdrawals over weekends.

Other withdrawal timeframes — credit/debit card, cheque, bank transfer — are not taken into consideration.

Why it matters to you

A slow pending period is the most common way a casino makes withdrawing painful without breaking any rule. Both halves must fit inside 24 hours, and weekends are not an excuse.

How we verify it

Stated timeframes checked against the operator's terms, then tested with a real withdrawal during Stage 4 — including one placed on a weekend.

4 Genuine responsible-gambling commitment Threshold: self-serve limits + self-exclusion

Problem gambling has always been part of the online casino world, and responsible-gambling policy has not evolved as fast as players deserve. As one of the industry's most trusted portals, we have a duty to promote socially responsible operators. The requirements are:

  1. Clear, comprehensible information on all relevant responsible-gambling policies and procedures.
  2. Self-exclusion and cooling-off available both via support channels and as self-serve account features.
  3. Deposit, wager and loss limits — per day, week and month — available both via support and as self-serve account features.

Why it matters to you

Tools that exist only if you ask support for them are not tools. Every limit must be something you can set yourself, in your account, without having a conversation about it.

How we verify it

Every control is set and cleared by hand in a live account during hands-on testing.

5 Transparent funding and AML policies Threshold: fully documented procedures

Any casino company operating across borders must implement and adhere to the laws, regulations and guidelines of its regulatory regime for the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing. Certified casinos are expected to provide detailed information about the procedures and policies they have implemented.

Why it matters to you

Clear, published AML procedure is what keeps verification predictable instead of arbitrary — the difference between a documented check and a surprise account freeze.

How we verify it

Policy documents reviewed against the obligations attached to the operator's licence.

6 Fair, secure and transparent operations Threshold: 5 sub-requirements, all mandatory

Certified casinos must prove their operations are fair, honest, secure and compliant with their licence:

  1. The website must use SSL encryption and offer a safe, secure environment.
  2. Only games from fully licensed and regulated software vendors.
  3. No payment or withdrawal processed until the player has completed KYC and the account is verified.
  4. A 24/7 live chat facility.
  5. Player access to their complete gaming and transaction history.

Why it matters to you

Licensed providers mean tested RNGs. KYC before payout stops someone else cashing out of your account. 24/7 chat means help exists when you actually play. Full history access means you can audit your own money.

How we verify it

Certificate and encryption checks, provider licence checks, plus live tests of chat response and history export.

7 Regulated by a reputable licensing authority Threshold: whitelisted regulator

The licensing authority affects every aspect of a casino's operations, so a certified casino must be fully regulated by a reputable one. Currently accepted:

  • Malta Gaming Authority (MGA)
  • UK Gambling Commission (UKGC)
  • Gibraltar Regulatory Authority (GRA)
  • Isle of Man GSC
  • Alderney GCC

Exceptions may be made for operators licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission or Curaçao master-licence holders — but only after extensive research and full consensus across the AskGamblers management team, to avoid future oversights.

Why it matters to you

The regulator is your backstop if we cannot help. These five have real complaint procedures and real enforcement records. Compare licensing authorities →

How we verify it

Licence number confirmed on the regulator's own public register — never taken from the casino's footer.

8 Six months on AskGamblers and a clean reputation cross-check Threshold: ≥ 6 months, no open issues

Beyond being listed on AskGamblers for a minimum of six months, each casino is carefully reviewed for past or ongoing issues affecting its reputation and operations — both here (complaints, player reviews, forum posts) and across all major rival websites.

Why it matters to you

A brand-new casino has no track record to check. Six months of complaints, player reviews and forum discussion is the minimum evidence base for a verdict this strong.

How we verify it

Our own listing data, plus a reputation sweep across player reviews, forum threads and other major industry sites.

9 AGCCS and review-page integration on the casino's own site Threshold: complaints page + footer badge

All certified casinos must:

  1. Create a dedicated "Complaints" page on their website, linking to the AskGamblers Complaint Service "Submit a Complaint" page with the relevant information.
  2. Add the AskGamblers logo in the footer of their website, linking to their casino review page on AskGamblers.
  3. Exceptions to 1 and 2 may be made for operators with a CasinoRank above 9.5.

Why it matters to you

This is the standard that gives you the escape route. A certified casino must publish a path to our complaint service on its own site — it cannot claim our approval while hiding how you escalate. It is also what makes badge verification possible.

How we verify it

Both placements checked on the live site at every 90-day re-audit.

Scoring

The two numbers that decide it

Standards 1 and 2 are the gates almost every application fails on. Here is exactly how both are calculated.

CasinoRank ≥ 8.00 — what goes into it

  • 50%
Casino details Withdrawal and pending timeframes, payment methods, withdrawal limits, support channels and availability, software providers
  • 25%
AGCCS history Track record on the AskGamblers Complaint Service — filed complaints against pending and resolved ones
  • 15%
Player reviews Written reviews and 1–10 scores submitted by the AskGamblers community
  • 10%
Design details Responsiveness, user-friendliness and ease of navigation
The AGCCS excellence formula — both gates stay live after certification
Published complaintsRequirementWorked example
6 or fewer No more than 1 unresolved 5 of 6 resolved = 83.33% — acceptable
More than 6 At least 85% resolved, whatever the volume 51 of 60 resolved = 85.0% — acceptable

A casino that drifts below either gate after certification enters the remediation process below.

Enforcement

Staying certified — and losing it

The certificate has no expiry date, but it is not permanent either. Every certified casino sits in one of three states.

Monitored

Re-audited in full at least every 90 days against all nine standards. Every new complaint filed against the casino is reviewed as it arrives.

Under remediation

A casino that falls short of any standard is notified before any action is taken, and given a fixed window to put it right. The badge stays visible during that window.

Suspended or removed

If the issue is not fixed we suspend the certificate and the badge comes down — from our review page and from the casino's site. A casino that loses it cannot reapply for two years.

Accountability

Who decides, and why you can hold us to it

Certification decisions are made by the AskGamblers Certification Committee — not by an algorithm, and not by anyone with a commercial relationship to the operator.

Head of Complaints Oversees AGCCS; adjudicates disputes between players and operators.
Compliance Lead Licence verification, AML review, terms & conditions analysis.
Senior Casino Analyst Hands-on testing: payouts, KYC, live chat, responsible-gambling tooling.
Editor-in-Chief Publication sign-off and maintenance of the published standards.

Decisions require consensus. Any member may block certification on a single unmet standard. No committee member sees the commercial terms of any operator relationship.

Since 2006 we have reviewed hundreds of casinos and processed 38,051 player complaints, resolving 29,716 of them and returning $89,427,504 to players. That record — not a questionnaire — is what these standards are built on.

Evidence

What certification looks like in practice

Questions

Certificate of Trust FAQ

Can a casino buy the Certificate of Trust?
No. AskGamblers does not sell the Certificate of Trust. We grant it only to casinos that successfully meet our certification criteria, and commercial relationships have no bearing on the decision.
How do I know a Certificate of Trust badge is genuine?
A genuine badge always links to the casino's review page on AskGamblers. Check that the badge also appears on that review page, and that the casino is listed in our certified casinos directory. If any of the three checks fails, treat the badge as fake and report it.
Does the Certificate of Trust mean I will get paid?
It means the casino has met a 0–24h payout standard, holds a resolution rate above 85% on our public complaint service, and has committed to a route for you to escalate to us. It is the strongest signal we can give — not a guarantee. If something does go wrong, you have somewhere to go: submit a complaint.
How is this different from a gambling licence?
A licence is legal permission to operate, issued by a state regulator. The Certificate of Trust is an independent audit of how the casino actually treats players — payout speed, dispute resolution, responsible-gambling tooling. Certified casinos must hold a whitelisted licence as well: the certificate does not replace regulation, it adds a service-quality layer on top of it. Compare licensing authorities →
What are the certification criteria?
A casino must, among other things: hold a minimum CasinoRank of 8.00, have an excellent AGCCS history and an impeccable reputation, guarantee fast and hassle-free cashouts, demonstrate a genuine responsible-gambling commitment, publish AML procedures, run fair and secure operations, and hold a licence from a reputable authority. Read all nine standards in full.
Why have fewer than 50 casinos earned it?
Because the vetting is genuinely rigorous. Out of hundreds of Certificate of Trust applications we have received and reviewed, we have approved fewer than 10% of them.
Can the certificate expire?
It has no expiry date, but a casino holding it can lose it if it falls behind any certification criterion.
How often do you re-check certified casinos?
We review every certified casino at least every three months, and often more frequently. Every new complaint filed against a certified casino is reviewed as it arrives.
Can a casino lose the Certificate of Trust?
Yes. If our checks reveal that a casino is no longer compliant — or if we receive a valid player report — the casino is notified and given a deadline to fix the issue. Failure to resolve within the deadline results in removal of the badge and a two-year bar on reapplying.
What happens if a certified casino treats me badly?
File an AGCCS complaint. Certified casinos are held to a higher resolution standard, and any failure to resolve feeds directly back into their certification — a certified casino risks the badge by mishandling your case.
Why isn't a single newly opened casino certified?
A new casino has no track record to check. We require a minimum six-month presence on AskGamblers before a casino can apply, so that we can see how its operations behave in practice.
When were these standards last updated?
Standards v3.1, published August 2026. We publish a changelog entry whenever a standard or a threshold changes.
