It is official now! PokerStars has become the first licensed international online casino and poker operator who received approval from the Czech State Supervision of Gambling and Lotteries Department.
On January 28th, Amaya Inc was awarded with 'Live Games' license which was a result of the Czech Republic new online gaming regulations which came into effect from January 1st. This means that PokerStars will launch soon in this country.
Guy Templer, chief operating officer of PokerStars said: "We are very proud to be the first online casino and poker operator to be awarded a license and support the newly regulated Czech market. This underscores our commitment to supporting local regulations and obtaining local licenses wherever possible."
PokerStars will offer Czech players a wide range of poker games and tournament formats across its shared global liquidity, as well as popular multiplayer casino games Classic Blackjack, Premium Blackjack, European Roulette and Double Ball Roulette, on desktop (Windows and Mac) and mobile (iOS and Android).
PokerStars has the highest level of player fund protection in the industry and it is no wonder that they are the first to obtain this license. Czech player funds will be under trust agreements and they will be held separately from operating funds, but this is no surprise since this is what is done in all other markets where PokerStars offers its services.
This is just the beginning because Amaya have also applied for the license to introduce their sports betting site BetStars, as well as introducing a range of online casino games.
