The 8th International Gaming Awards in London have just wrapped up, and many casinos and software developers in the i-gaming industry have earned recognition for their accomplishments and innovation over the past year. One of the major winners of the event was NetEnt, who won the highly competitive Slot Provider/Supplier Product of the Year award. This news came just a day after the iGB Affiliate Awards, where we were overjoyed to win a trophy of our own for Best Casino Affiliate. Take a look below to see what innovations made NetEnt this year’s big winner.
Two wins in a row for NetEnt
This isn’t the first time NetEnt have been recongised for their achievements. In fact, just last year at the same event, they won the Innovator of the Year award. It’s no surprise that the company’s management are extremely satisfied with their accomplishments and hope to be able to continue the trend into next year and beyond.
Per Eriksson, President and CEO of NetEnt, told the press: “To walk away with the Slot Provider/Supplier Product of the Year for online and land-based is a superb achievement. Our mission is always to provide leading edge online casino solutions and we’re honoured to be recognized for our hard work.
A year of innovation
For NetEnt, 2014 was all about giving players new ways to spin. Many of their newly released titles became instant hits thanks to the integration of beloved characters from film and TV, as well as never-before-seen gameplay. Perhaps the best example of this is Aliens, which was released last April. Instead of having a traditional bonus round, the game follows the actual storyline of the 1986 hit sci-fi film of the same name. Players begin scouting for alien life in The Search, and once found, they enter a high-intensity shootout in The Encounter where one wrong move can be deadly. The luckiest of players end up at The Hive, and if they can destroy the alien Queen, they’re rewarded handsomely.
Aliens wasn’t the only game that changed the way people played last year. The company also released South Park: Reel Chaos, the hit sequel to the original South Park slot, which gave players a whole new adventure with Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman. Another big launch was December’s The Invisible Man, which recreated one of the world’s oldest sci-fi films with unique elements like Walking Wilds and a free spins feature that can unlock two intense bonus rounds.
NetEnt also played a major role in making mobile gaming more popular than ever. The company began releasing all new slots under both web and touch formats. Additionally, two of their older slots, Lost Island and Piggy Riches, were also added to the touch line-up.
Another big year on the horizon?
There’s no telling what the future will hold, but if NetEnt’s back-to-back winning years are any indicator, 2015 could very well be another winning year for this leading slot developer.
